Tracey..I had a LAp RNY after 2 C-Sections!!
You guys are all just great!! thanks for taking the time to help me
out. for the last 3 months I have been thinking that I was going to
have to have this surgery open.I know that i still might have to if
ther are any complications. But a least I know that I have the
laparoscopic option.I was leaning towards a lap -band for that
reason. Until resently ,I thought that the band was much safer and
had a much Quicker recovery time.I now see that problems can arise in
the lap-band too. What I think is critical here,is the bonus of a
very experienced surgeon no matter which surgery you chose.Tracey.
I live in Arkansas and will be having the Lap RNY performed within the next few
weeks. I don’t have a surgery date yet, but I am hoping to have one within the
week.
My question….thoughts…fears….I don’t know why I overeat. I like food, but
there are emotional reasons behind me eating, but I don’t know what they are.
How is this going to effect me after surgery?
I don’t want to overeat and cause internal problems, but I’m afraid that
emotions will get the best of me and I will. What happens emotionally to you
after the surgery? I can deal with eating small portions physically - I have
to, but the emotional aspect is what scares me.

Well, Al Roker is “coming out” tonight on Dateline about his weight loss
surgery last year. I am going to watch it.I am proud that he finally decided
to tell the world about it. It should be very inspiring for some and maybe it
will finally give this wonderful surgery some much needed “positive” press.
Make sure to watch it if you can!

hey I am 32 years old, and the way I see it is: yeah, I could
probably try a couple more diets but history repeats and in two years
I will be here again, I dont want to waste anymore time in my life
trying to reach an unreachable goal, I dont want to try anymore,I
want to do it this time. yes maybe in a way its easier, than failing
and trying again and again. or trying and quitting.or working myself
to the bone only to gain it back again. and beating myself up and
loathing myself for my failures. the medical facts are this is the
only proven way to lose large amounts of weight long term, at this
time in our medical technology. so bring it on.I hope it is easier,
because the hard way just hasn’t worked!

well I find that a little disturbing, that belly buttons just fall
off! is there some kind of emergency belly button replacement
surgery? I know my mom had abdominalplasty(TT) with liposuction and
reconstructed belly button, in 1994 she is not a wls patient but her
button has never fallin off, she says it feels different than her
natural button and she frequently gets a yeast infection in it, which
she just dabs monostat cream on and its better tell next time. so I
am not sure what the infection connection is (hehehe that ryhmes!)

Hi Everyone - I have not been on this list for a long time. I was just
wondering if any of the Old-Timers are around - Like Olwen, Cindy Sunshine,
Gina etc. I have wondered how all of you are doing. My VBG did not work for
me. I have ended up being about 40 pounds less than when I started and
diagnosed with a metabolic disorder. I still can’t eat a great deal and I
still throw up lots. What about the rest of you?
I think what the problem is in stating WLS is the easy way out is because
there is 2 sides to the story. Its a very difficult decision and for me, I
was at the worst place in my life physically, mentally, and emotionally to
make that decision to have wls. Why do people think its easy? Because for
those of us who have tried EVERYTHING!!!! It ends up to be the only thing
that is successful.
Success makes things look easy even though they are not. Unfortunately the
general public will never understand what we go through pre decision making
all the way through post op and the rest of our lives.

Has anyone had a Lap rny even after having a c- section? I will only
concider an rny if it can be done laparoscopically.I have a job that
requires heavy lifting and a hernea would be almost certain. Thanks
for any info you might have.Tracey.
Being overweight, I feel like I am in jail and when I diet, be it
low fat or law carb, I am putting my family and others out and I
always have to say at social functions, “I can’t eat that.” After
surgery (and I mean long after), do you return to a somewhat normal
life, in that you can eat most foods that other people eat. I
understand that quantities are greatly reduced and that is something
I welcome and that you must make good choices for nutrient dense
healthy foods; however, will I eventually be able to drink with
meals and eat most foods again within limits. And I understand there
is a very gradual process of reintroducing foods and that is fine. I
don’t want to change one jail for another unreversible one. Before I
decide to do this, I want to understand any negative impacts.
Thanks for your advice
