Can’t eat anything hardly!
Hey
I’ve been trying to eat a few things and have found that everything I’ve tried
hurts my stomach. The only thing that doesn’t is sugar-free popcicles and
frozen fruit. I’m 2 1/2 weeks and the doc said to try egg white, cottage
cheese, and the usual first weeks stuff…and it ain’t working.
I’ve tried
potato soup, mashed potato, baked potato and it all hurts the new stomach. I
know I can’t survive on popcicles and frozen fruit.
Did anybody else
experience this?
Also…what is the DS procedure? I had the RNY…didn’t know there was another
one besides the RNY and LAP. Someone here said the DS was a newer procedure???
Thanks for all the help…I’ve turned into a whiner…I just crave something to
eat and then it hurts waa…waa..waa..

It’s ok Annette, I lived on popsicles and cottage cheese for the first 2 months.
Right after surgery it’s just important to get in what you can, and make sure
you are drinking plenty of water. If you can stomach protein shakes, drink
those. My stomach is still sensitive and I’m nearly 6 months out—but I’ve
been able to gradually add more and more to the list of what I can eat—at
first it wasn’t much.
The other procedure is called the Duodenal Switch, it is an operation that
causes greater malabsorbtion than the RNY but you can still eat normally. (I
think) Not too many doctors perform that surgery and it’s even harder to get
insurance approval for it. There are a few other surgeries besides the RNY.
Don’t worry about the eating, just do what you can, it’ll be better before you
know it!

Annette
Potatoes(even mashed) still hurt my stomach and I am just over 3 months post op.
I pureed split pea and black bean soups. These were delicious were a good
source of protein and went down well. Some soft fruits( not bananas), if
allowed, were good too. It takes a while and somehow 3 weeks can seem like such
a long time when you are trying to adjust and learn what you can and cannot eat.
It can be difficult sometimes.
I think I almost lived on the sugarfree popsicles for a while there. lol
Welcome to a wonderful journey!
