Digest Number 4125

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

Although I would have loved to take ‘weeks’ off, I wasn’t able and went back
to an office job 10 days after LAP. I would say that was the minimum time we
need becuase it was a little rough. I would get home those first few weeks
and go to sleep. My sister had it done and went back to work about the same
amount of time and she feels fine..so I guess it depends

Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

Hi,
I am new to the group and am considering RNY. I have a particular
question perhaps someone can help with.
Due partly to diet habits and partly to mal-absorption of some
vitamins, especially B12, I am currently on a vitamin program
that is customized to my body’s needs formulated from a urine
analysis. I realize that if I proceed with this surgery, my
nutritional intake will further decrease as will absorption which
will require sending in a new sample for analysis post operatively.
My question is this. The supplements are formulated and sent in
daily dose packs of 6 capsules. I currently take these all at once
but it requires a quite a bit of water to get them down. (I’m
lousy at swallowing pills). Would I be able to spread them out during
the day and still get all 6 down?
Thanks,

Info on TRINSICON and other supplements

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

One of the other list I’m on just had a posting about a prescription drug
TRINSICON. Supposedly it’s a B-12, Iron, Folate (?), and intrinsic factor
combination medication. It’s to be taken in addition to a multivitamin for
life. This is a new one on me. Anyone know anything about this? I’m
starting to really look into the various vitamin and mineral supplements and
I’m overwhelmed with all that’s out there and would love your input. As for
protein supplements, that’s double confusion!!!!
I can’t believe I’m just a month away!!! It’s weird, on one side it’s taking
forever and on the other side, it’s whizzing by so quickly!!
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Can’t eat anything hardly!

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

Hey
I’ve been trying to eat a few things and have found that everything I’ve tried
hurts my stomach. The only thing that doesn’t is sugar-free popcicles and
frozen fruit. I’m 2 1/2 weeks and the doc said to try egg white, cottage
cheese, and the usual first weeks stuff…and it ain’t working. :) I’ve tried
potato soup, mashed potato, baked potato and it all hurts the new stomach. I
know I can’t survive on popcicles and frozen fruit. :) Did anybody else
experience this?
Also…what is the DS procedure? I had the RNY…didn’t know there was another
one besides the RNY and LAP. Someone here said the DS was a newer procedure???
Thanks for all the help…I’ve turned into a whiner…I just crave something to
eat and then it hurts waa…waa..waa.. :) Annette

My goal

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Hi Everyone,
I thought that I would come out of lurking again. I have to give an update.
I am almost 9 months post op and I wanted to share that I stepped on the
scales this morning and I weighed 148 pounds. I am no longer morbidly obese.
I am “normal” as for the BMI charts go. I am so happy. I hit an emotional
rut about a month ago and I am doing so much better. I am so much happier
and I am working three jobs now so I can save money to have an
abdominalplasty done, that doesn’t include going to school full time. I
have no clue how much more weight I will lose once I have my abdominalplasty
done. From my highest weight I have lost 129 pounds and since surgery I have
lost 119 pounds.
Thanks for listening…..

skin

Friday, March 25th, 2005

I am interested in having wls. I have been doing a lot of research and have
read that some people have to have excess skin surgically removed. Can
anyone tell me is this very common? I had hoped with exercise I would not
have a problem with this. Can anyone give me any information on this? Is
the surgery covered by insurance or considered cosmetic?
Thanks
Tammy

A couple more questions…

Friday, March 25th, 2005

1 - What was your preop prep? i.e. NPO,enema’s, etc…
2 - Were you able to suck on ice chips after your
surger?
3 - How many drainage tubes are common?
4 - How long is the NG tube in?
Thanks Again for the advice.

Fast Eaters

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

I come from a family of fast eaters. They could win Olympic
competitions! I kid you not! Since I live alone, this is not so much
a problem for me, but I am dreading Thanksgiving for this reason. I
eat too fast when around them. And temptations abound during this
holiday. I’m worring about eating too much and too fast. Plus the
snacking banquet will be set out in full force. Can anyone give me
help or advice on what to do or how to control myself while I am at
my parents? Thanks, Shelly. My e-mail is MDeCorte66@….

Dr. Ali in Kansas City

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

Any others here with Dr. Ali?? I’m sure there are!
My problem is that they have all changed their numbers at Truman Medical and
I can’t get ahold of Gale Obermeyer - the insurance lady that Dr. Ali says I
need to contact.
I have been on hold, been transfered, been hung up on, etc, etc and still
can’t get ahold of her! Does anyone have her new number?
Thanks!
