Calcium Citrate vs carbonate

HI,
I’m confused about which calcium to take after RNY, I’ve been using
carbonate (tums) for a year, but now am hearing that they aren’t
adequate and that Citrate is what we should be taking to prevent
calcium deficiency.
Thoughts please…
Steve

Steve, Yes, I believe citrate is the way to go. I sub to the Graduate list
and many people on there have shared their experience with carbonate.
Dexascans proved that carbonate was not working, therfore, not absorbed.
Calcium citrate is the way to go, because it is absorbed. Not sure on amnt
men should take, but I think women should take 1500mg. 500mg is absorbed at
one time and should NOT be taken with iron. So it needs to be spaced out
between other vits with iron and take a couple to three times a day.
