eating problems/long
when i was newly post-op i worried too that i wasn’t able to eat much and that i
wouldn’t get my protein in because i hated the shakes and they made me sick
because of the artificial sweetners. i drank isopure zero carb for a short while
until i couldn’t make myself drink those either.
i still can’t eat a whole sandwich at a sitting and often will take 1/2 an hr to
eat a half and then i throw out most of the whole grain bread i use because
bread doesn’t sit well. this is true for many of us. usually what i do is have
very dry toast with 2 soft boiled or scrambled eggs in the morning or leftover
meat or chicken or turkey. at 11 months cold protein over a salad goes down
better than sandwiches as does cheese and crackers. i use a cracker instead of
bread most of the time and like rye crisp because they are whole grain. like
barbara says they taste like bark, good bark though.
the problem is that we are all different and heal at different rates and can
tolerate foods at different rates. the one thing we all have in common in the
beginning is that we will not starve on a very limited food intake. that is the
whole point, ladies and gentleman, we can’t eat much and we lose weight fast.
not to worry , probably sooner than we would like, in retrospect, our hunger
comes back. thankfully i am easily satisfied now and eat a lot less than before
my wls. and while i am losing very slowly now it is time for that to happen as i
get close to my surgeons goal for me.
the whole point here is that this is not instant. a year from now it will seem
as if it was instant but not right now. the food fears do not get operated on.
as denise says it is not brain surgery. the best advice here has been to relax
and enjoy the ride as much as possible and to just plug along until the results
start piling up. once that happens you will start to enjoy your life so much
that your stress level should go down. it is hard to realize that we have
stockpiled so much stress from being morbidly obese and co-morbidites, then the
surgery process and then surgery that our poor bodies and brains at the
beginning are pretty overwhelmed.
try your very best as newbies to relax, always call the doc if there are
questions about nausea, vomiting , pain or diarrhea, don’t wait and don’t feel
stupid asking a million questions it is a totally life altering time.
isn’t that why we are all here?
