I need some advice/help and prayers
As most of you know, I’m scheduled for surgery 12/27 at Southcrest. Last
Monday right about the time I was leaving work I did “something” to my right
knee. Just a little history…BAD KNEES!!! Both have had surgery before and
right now I have a NON REPAIRED ACL tear on the right one.
Anyway, I work for the P.O., it’s December AND I’m going to be out for QUITE
A WHILE in a few weeks, so I really didn’t want to “admit” that I had once
again done “something” to my knee. My husband met me at work because we were
going to go to Dr. B’s support group after dinner.
However, after dinner I told him I thought we better go to ER instead of the
meeting as it was becoming increasingly difficult to walk. After about 3-4
hours in ER, I was sent home with a full length splint on my leg to
immobilize my knee and told to see my PCP today.
Well, needless to say, being MO and having to use crutches DOES NOT MIX!!!
Thank God I have such a wonderful husband. I did “use” the crutches in the
house, but my husband rented me a wheelchair to use outside the house…not
that I am getting out much!!!
Today we went to see the PCP and he removed the splint. He did all the
“usual tests” that are done on knees to check for stability and nothing
really hurt me, so he told me I should be fine and that he thought I’d just
sprang my knee. Well, like a dummy, I had neglected to take my “extra” shoe
with me and there was snow on the ground, so hubby wheeled me back out to the
car. I was so glad to be “FREE” of that splint, so after getting my shoe we
decided to go look for me a new recliner for after I come home from surgery.
I decided I needed to use 1 crutch “just because.” Here’s my dilemma, while
I can walk on my knee, every time I straighten my knee out completely to take
a step and/or put pressure down on my leg, it hurts!!! As I’ve said, I’ve
had knee pain before, so if it’s “just going to take time,” I can deal with
that!! I’m worried though that perhaps there’s something else wrong with my
knee. God, I WANT to be in denial so much because I don’t want ANYTHING to
get in the way of my surgery, BUT at the same time, I don’t want to do
further damage to my knee!!!
I keep going back to all the “checks” the dr. did and NONE OF THEM REALLY
HURT, BUT I wasn’t standing with my weight on it then either. So, I guess
I’m looking for some insight, advice, help and if you can’t provide any of
that, your prayers!!! I don’t want my banged up knee to get in the way of my
surgery and I want to be able to walk as I’m supposed to after surgery!!!
HELP!!! Also, I am on digest so if you could also address your e-mail to me
personally, I would greatly appreciate it!!!
