dry skin and welting
I’m 4.5months post op from LAP RNY and have lost 70lbs to date and feel great
except for my skin. I’m drinking my fluids, taking Vitamin E and my other
vitamins and calcium, yet the skin on my face is extremely dry. I noticed the
other day, it has become sensitive to foundation make-up (which I only wear
maybe once a month) and Total Effects by Oil of Olay.
I woke up the following morning to find redness and welting on both sides of my
facial cheeks.
I keep hydrating my skin with good creams for extra dry skin and it still feels
dry.
Anyone else out there with the same problem, if so, any suggestions?

YES!!!! My little red cheeks were peeling horribly! I looked like a little
kid with chapped cheeks.
I had bought vitamin E oil to put on my incision and thought…what the
heck….I’ll put it on my cheeks, too. Glad to say, it has helped. My skin
sucked that stuff right up. I still do it…morning and night. Next I plan
on putting it on my butt cheeks…they are so dry and itchy….very strange!

In the winter months I’ve always found myself having dryer skin; and I found
my skin to be especially dry this winter. Physiologically speaking, with
the RNY you absorb less fat in the things you eat, and in all reduced fat
diets, the skin is often the first thing to suffer as there is less
essential fatty acids for your body to lubricate your skin with naturally
occurring oils. Essential fatty acid deficiency is common in some
individuals who follow very low fat diets for prolonged periods of time.
This manifests itself as very dry skin.
Eucerin makes a really nice non-comedogenic facial cream/lotion that I have
found to help. Be sure not to over cleanse your face, and don’t take your
showers too hot, as this can dry out the skin even more. Aveda makes a very
nice product called “Night Nutrients” that I use on specific spots that are
overly dry, and they are usually gone by morning!
I hope you get to feeling a little better, dry skin can make you feel really
miserable.

I’m mostly a lurker here but wanted to put my two cents in on the dry skin
thing in hopes that someone else might get help.
When I had my distal RNY I noticed that my skin started to get really dry and
yes it’s an icky feeling. I read on another board that Dry vitamin E can
help. It did help me.
I usually open the dry vitamin E capsule and just put it into my protein
shake a couple times a day.
DRY vitamin E can be found at the VitaminShoppe or some other vitamin/health
food shop.
Hope this helps

I have found that bathing with the new Dial Aloe Shower Cream helps my dry
skin tremendously. I was so dry I was itching and I have to be very careful
which lotions/creams I use as I have lots of allergies. This lubricates my
skin and leaves it feeling very soft. Just thought I would mention this.
