Worst thing

I was just wondering: what’s been the worst thing for any of you in
the whole process. I’d like opinions please. It woudl be
interesting to know what you all think.

That’s easy. The worst thing for me was the gas pains 4-6 days post-op. It’s
the only bad thing I still remember. Everything else was just discomfort.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about the g-tube experience Suzanne. That would
definately be my worst after surgery experience. I had surgery with Dr.
Marema who is the leader of the same group so I too lived with that thing for
10 days. The problem I had with it was the tip of the tube would just shoot
off on its own. It would make a noise and bam it was gone and I was covered
in gastric secretions. It would happen at least once a day, usually more. I
tried tapeing it and that worked for a while. One day I was out and all of a
sudden I felt wet. The tip of the tube was off and it had disappeared. I
never found it again. After that I had a plastic bag taped to the end of the
tube and that is how I lived for the rest of the time. I was so delighted to
get rid of that yuckie thing. Thank goodness not all docters make you keep it
    for such a long time.

I had Open RNY on 4/9/01 (coming up on 2 yrs now) and at the time my
surgeon sent us home with 2 tubes in your belly (the JP drain and
another one straight into your old stomach in case emergency feeding
    became necessary).
I had the G-tube removed the day following my surgery and that just
felt like a slimy worm coming up…yuck! But oh boy, I had the
drains removed 14 days post-op and oh God…talk about pain!!! Now I
have a high tolerance for pain and I hardly used any pain meds at
all, but when they removed the JP drain, I felt like I was having a
knife pulled out of me! Everyone else I talked to said they felt
almost nothing as they were being removed. I asked the doc why it
hurt so much and he said it was quite long to begin with, has a
little bulb at the end to do the absorbing, and I probably had
started forming scar tissue around it.
By the way, the tubes are now removed before you go home from the

hospital, which is usually the next day!
