Gastric tube & bowel prep

I have noticed that some surgeons use a gastric tube while others
don’t. I have also noticed the same for the “bowel prep”. Are these
unnecessary tortures or is there a reason why some Dr.s use them
while others don’t? Thanks once again for your input guys! Kris

    Ray, did you have tubes in the incisions? The gastric tube I was
    talking about is through the nose into the stomach (naso-gastric
    tube?). THAT sounds really awful. Kris
