What happens if you get a stomach bug?
There’s a lot of the Norwalk virus going around my area, a *really*
nasty stomach bug which causes awful vomiting and diahrrhea. How
would that effect us with the little stomach pouch? I’ve thrown up
just a couple of times on stuck food, but it wasn’t really like being
sick before. If you get a bug, is it like “normal” vomiting? Is
there any danger to the staple line in the pouch?
I’m going to be doing a lot of hand washing this winter!

Celia, I just got over having food poisoning (it always finds me, no matter
how careful I am about where I eat). For me, once I emptied my stomach of
it’s most recent meal, I would just spit up saliva. Diarrhea was just as
bad as pre-op though. But the vomiting was definitely better…still had
the urge, just nothing to come up (no yucky bile). As far as danger to the
staple line, that’s one for your doctor. I think a lot would depend on how
far postop you are. If it’s within the first couple of months postop, I’d
give my surgeon a call just to be safe. Otherwise, I don’t think there’s
much to worry about. JMHO

My Whole family had the Flu. They had diarrhea, vomiting, chills…My
version was different. I was sooooooo tired, all I wanted to do was
sleep…and scary diarrhea. No vomiting. I think that food passes so
quickly through my tummy that I ended up with Diarrhea only…
Stay well

A friend of mine who had WLS, I think 18 months ago, had Norwalk over
Christmas. She is doing fine now. Toronto was just riddled with it
in December. Many hospitals were closed due to Norwalk virus.
