aches and pains, energy loss

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

Hello All! This is an awesome site. I am 3 1/2 months out. I have
lost 70 pounds. I have about 130 more to loose. I am 44 years old. I
am having some pretty strong aches and pains in my hips, top of my
legs, and back. My doc says it is because I am loosing those fat
folds and now the bones are having to re-adjust. Motrin helps
briefly. Does anyone else have this, and if so, what are you doing
for it? Also, I am feeling a loss of energy. I am eating my
protein, my labs are all normal. Everyone said it will pass, but it
is just so varied. Sometimes I feel so tired I have to lay down and
take a nap (not good for when I start school in another month).
I thank everyone/anyone that answers me back. I appreciate your
input. Take good care. Jen “) San Diego, CA

skin issues

Friday, June 24th, 2005

I’m sure this has been discussed numerous times, but I haven’t been
able to find the answers to my specific questions.
Does anyone know of any nutritional supplements or specific
excersises that can help w/the loose skin? Mine is no where near bad
enough for my insurance company to pay for removing it, but to me
it’s a horrible embarrassment. My upper arms, inner thighs and
stomach are so bad that every time I get a glance of them I feel like
I weigh 250 lbs again.
The other day I showed a friend my stomach and she said that it just
looks like I just had a baby, and that got me thinking that maybe
there is hope. Women are able to shrink their stomachs after
pregnancy, what’s the difference here?
What do you guy’s think, is there a chance or should I just start
saving my pennies for plastic surgery?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Random thoughts at 7 months out (long)

Friday, June 24th, 2005

You know, maybe I have low expectations, but if this surgery can just do
that much for me I’ll be happy.
As far as I know, my highest weight was 417, and that was taken in May of
1999. Somewhere along the next 3 years I lost 40#, not sure how … but
after nearly five years on a scooter or in a wheelchair, the last two of
which I’ve spent literally stuck in my apartment because there are steps
and we can’t afford to build a ramp, and trying to live on Social Security
alone for the last two, I’ve LEARNED my lesson about being a couch potato.
All I ask is please, God, just get me up on my feet again. If I can get
back down to about 315, which is where I was when I gave up and quit
trying, I’LL do the rest …

response to surgery date

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

Congrats Becky on your up and coming surgery date. You will be amazed after
this is all said and done as to how well you will feel.
I was close to the weight you are at now, post op I was 280lbs. I actually was
268 when I booked my surgery (aug 19th, 2002) and had “many” last suppers and
gained an add’l 12lbs when I went in. I am now 4.5months post op and have lost
80lbs and dropped 8 pant/dress sizes. It feels so good to have so much energy
to run up and down my stairs now, where before I barely made it up the stairs
and very winded.
Good luck!

repsonse to “belly hurts”

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

Barbara,
I noticed I had the same pings, twings and some pain in the belly area 2 months
post op. Once your doctor checks out that there are no complications, it could
very well be what my surgeon explained to me which is, normal pings, twinges and
some sporatic pain in this area because of the trama our muscles and nerves
endured.
Your doctor can say for sure what he/she thinks it might be.

Rectal Absess (sp) & other questions..

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

Good Morning Everyone…
A friend of mine had her RNY on Dec. 13th. She called me last night
to tell me the reason she had been out of touch was because she had
gotten a rectal abysses and had to have another surgery.
The abysses is when one of the glands surrounding the rectum gets
plugged up and swelling/pain occurs. The doctor told her that
because of all the diarreah she had because of the surgery, she got
the abysses. Has anyone else had this?
To top all this off, when they did the surgery and sent her home,
they didn’t send her home with a donut to sit on, or stool softeners.
Okay - another thing. Julie had her surgery at the Ypsilanti
Bariatric Ctr in Michigan. I live in AZ so all my support has been
over the phone. She’s asked questions and I’ve offered answers.
I’ve also told her things that happened to me (my navel is NO
LONGER), etc. Right after her surgery I was talking to her about

belly hurts

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

I am 2 months post op, and I have lost 40 lbs. I have been doing
WONDERFUL. But I have a question today. I am going to call my surgeon
in the morning, but I was just looking for a little insight until
then. I have had a pain in my belly for the past few days that is
worse today. It is a little to the left of the top of my insision.
When I press on it, it hurts. When I lift something it hurts (even if
it is something light) Sometimes even just sitting here it hurts. Has
anybody had a hernia. I know that this site is NOT for medical
advice, like I said I Will my call surgeon in the morning. I was just
wondering if anybody had any ideas.
Thanks,
Barbara

I’m so cold

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

Just my 2 cents worth here.. the human bodys major source of heat production is
digestion… which we basically don’t do much of after surgery … so we get
cold much faster …
Drink hot soups.. beverages wear layers of clothes and enjoy being able to
not be red in the face and pouring sweat …I don’t miss that at all!!

Revision why same surgery again

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

How can you have a MGB
revision by having another MGB? Is your pouch too big? Do you want
more malabsorbtion? How can they do a revision by doing the same
thing that was done originally?
He will make the pouch smaller and bypass more intestine. One of the
reasons I chose the MGB is because it can easily be revised or reversed if
necessary. Everyone is different, how much intestine to bypass is the luck
of the draw, the intestine changes sizes toometabolisms are different etc,
hence the different results we all get. He will bypass more and make a
smaller stomach and I should be finewe will see.
