Hair today…curls tomorrow?
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share with you my “hairy” story. I had RNY in June of 2000,
have been maintaining my 100+ weight loss for almost two years, and enjoy
wonderful health now. But I did experience that old post-op hair loss, which
I know many of you worry about.
Mine began about 6 months out, which seems to be the norm, at which time the
drains in my house began to get clogged with my falling locks of hair. Mind
you, my hair was always baby-fine and not thick, so I didn’t welcome this
development. Everyone has a theory about post-op hairloss, none of which seem
conclusive, and the truth is probably that it’s luck of the draw. I was
taking my vitamins, eating my protein, shampooing with Nioxin, blah, blah,
blah.
So…it got pretty thin up there. I had it cut in a chin-length blunt cut,
but watched my hairline look more and more sparse. Just as I reckoned I’d
better shop for a wig, the process slowed down. But the hair continued to
clog the drains until just the last few months. And guess what? My hair has
suddenly become wavy, with soft curls, and is filling out wonderfully. It’s
below my shoulders now, and when I let it air-dry after washing, fluffs up
into these soft curls, as if I has a perm. Weird!!!!
The moral of this story? Don’t let the hairloss thing get to you. It is
temporary, and your hair will come back, and heck, maybe it will come back
BETTER, like mine! Now if only it could’ve grown back in a nice blonde
color….
HUGS!!!
