Full feeling / food stuck…..HELP!
Hi Everyone,
I am presently 2.5 weeks post op and I have transitioned to soft proteins.
Scrambled egg, very soft chicken, melt in your mouth beef, cottage
cheese…..all of the stuff that falls into that category.
My problem is, I still don’t get a full feeling. I can eat up to about an ounce
of soft food haven’t yet finished a whole scrambled egg. I never get a full
feeling I get a feeling that the food is backing up and is getting
stuck….OUCH!!! But there is no warning, one bite makes the difference and it
is to late then. If I felt a full feeling I would know to stop. No pressure on
the pouch, no feeling at satisfaction, nothing! Just from one bite to the next
and stuck! It takes about a half an hour to pass and is the pits.
Any advice would be really appreciated. I see my doctor and nutritionist today
so I am going to ask about it. But, if anyone else has shared the same
difficulites and over came them please share the secret. It is getting so that
sometimes it is hard to just swallow water. Sure hope I haven’t messed anything
up.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

It takes time to get there and recognize what signals your body is giving
you. They may be very minor but there is probably something that warns you
that you are getting too full. You just haven’t learned what it is. I am not
being a know-it-all but had the same problem. What helped was I ate
extremely consciously and noted how my body felt after every bite. After a
week of doing this I started to subconsciously understand the signals. You
may not feel pressure (that would indicate too full in me) and satisfaction
takes 20 minutes to feel. Takes that long for the brain to register. And if
you are only eating an ounce of food you are still leaqrning. At 2.5 weeks,
your body is still healing so you may not notice it until you get onto
denser food and your body is further healed. It will happen. I know that
isn’t much help but it is all I have.

This happened to me right after surgery too. One bite made all the difference.
I can’t say that I found a “full” feeling; still don’t seem to feel full like I
did before surgery. But, I did find that by slowing down especially between
bites, I was finally able to recognize that I didn’t need or want that one last
bite. Mine kind of resolved itself and I rarely have the problem now at 6
months out. I do suggest stopping between bites for a minute or so. I was a
“shovel-er” and had to learn to stop shovelling.
