new recipe

Monday, July 25th, 2005

Howdy-
I was in need of something “new and different”. The same old baked chicken,
grilled steak, etc, while tasty, is getting boring. At work the other day, one
of the paramedics was eating something that smelled fantastic, so I asked for a
taste and purely loved it. It is based on an East Indian recipe, is chock full
of vegies, and can have most any meat you like added to it. It is basically a
stew, and originally the dish I based my recipe on was cooked in a clay pot in
an oven- called Tandoori style cooking. I took his recipe and went home and made
my own lower carb version. The entire recipe has 63 net effective carbs and will
go a long way for one, or will feed a family of 4-6 quite nicely with the
addition of some brown rice or couscous. Toasted pita bread with hummus would go
well with this for those on maintenance.
1/2 cup celery
2 cups fresh broccoli florets
1 1/2 cups chopped fresh yellow squash

Lap band complications

Monday, July 25th, 2005

I just found your support group site and I want to try to get some
answers from someone who has had the same problems asI have. I had
surgery on June 7th 2002. Since the beginning I’ ve had problems
vomiting. I vomit sometimes from just drinking water.
I have followerd every rule, I chew very well, I eat very slowly and
I eat very little. However, my personal obsessionb with food has not
changed. I think about it all the time.7 months into the surgery andI
ve only lost 30 lbs. I excercise about 3 times a week and I see a
trainer to keep toned. My dr seems to think that I just may have an
oversensitive stomach, but at this rate I dont know how long it will
take for me to lose all the weight. My band is currently a t 2.6
ccand i eat very limited amount of food. Mostly soups, pureed, no
meat (which i crave contantly), no sodas, no ice cream.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how to proceed or if you
think I should consult another surgeon. Perhaps my band is not

Woooo hoooooo!! I’m now below the 200 mark and weighed in this morning at
198lbs!! I have not been below the 200 lb mark in over 15 years!! I’ve lost

share my excitement with those of you who understand what it feels like to get
below this mark.

I too love hearing what Barbara Herrera has to say, save her posts, and consider
her my WLS hero. Although I have never met her, I feel a kinship that only
another WLS patient could understand. Barbara has opened up her struggles with
weight loss to us through her posts and pictorials and has provided invaluable
information. I receive my e-mails in digest form and the first names I look for
are Barbara Herrera and Ray Hooks, because I know I will learn something from
their posts. THANK YOU, Barbara for caring enough about the WLS community to
take such and active role. I know many are like me and are truly grateful to
you for all your posts. — Wendy

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Hi all,
I am a lurker also for well over a year now and this group is far better than
reading any book or talking to one person. I totally agree with Jeff and
also have to thank Ray Hooks and Denise - I would write and ask any of them
questions! Such knowledgeable people! I thank you all - I finally got my
surgery date of May 8th. I can’t wait!

My $0.02 on Fattie& Jeff M.

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Hi All,
I am pre-op and just want to ditto Jeff Masters comment. I am in this group
to honestly save what is left of my life. Because of this grp. I am
committed to the WLS and even committed to the dr. who will do the surgery.
I was not committed to either a few weeks ago. My eyes are on me and my
choices and helping anyone I can while I am helping myself. When I am
focused in what anyone else ought to do, I lose time I could have spent
trying to change me. Many of you have helped me and boy do I need it. My
occupation is in a helping profession , I love that, but right now I am
not even well enough to help anyone but myself.! The postings help me thru
my day and I am grateful for all of you. Due to diabetic foot ulcers, I am
sleeping in my dining rm with use of a walker /wheelchair. I am not able to
drive, and am supposed to be non weight bearing.
As I’ve said in other postings, I want to live and right now that ’s what
matters most. Living with the schackles of overeating has cost me too much

In Need of Thicker Hair?

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Hi Kathy,
I got home late and you beat me to the punch with this
post. Don’t you love Dr. Weil? He is one of my
inspirations for being healthy.
Did you read the good one on why we need to drink
water?
But, I do all the EFS and am still losing a lot of
hair. Who knows how much I would have lost without it
though. I just started doing ground flax seed because
I am not sure how much we absorb from all the oil
soluable stuff.
From day one I did everything right to avoid the
hairloss…protein, supplements,gentle treatment of my
hair. I started at month four and is still falling out
in month 5. Maybe it is just genes or fate…or, maybe

McDonald’s lawsuit for obesity

Saturday, July 23rd, 2005

Actually this was just one lawsuit. There were three others of the same ilk
filed — those others were by adults by the way who blamed the fast food
industry for serving a defective product.
