RAY stretching the pouch
Hi Ray…
thanks for the information on the pouch stretching study. Can you elaborate
on the above comment? “how the pouch is used”?

I think what he means is how you use it — in other words, do you follow the
rules? Do you eat protien first? Do you drink water during the day? Do you
avoid eating and drinking at the same time? Do you avoid grazing? If so
then you are using the pouch properly.

Thanks Denise
I thought that is what he meant but I try never to assume since I am no
expert.
you avoid eating and drinking at the same time? <
There has been some debate on my local list about drinking and eating. I am
trying to weed out all the “old wives tales”. Can you tell me why not
drinking is so important?
–I have heard that it stretches the pouch but is that really the issue given
the info that Ray posted?
–Also… I’ve heard that drinking flushes out the pouch and we need to keep
the food there to feel fuller longer. Since I dont have that problem of being
hungry between meals (thanks to my protein shakes) I have to wonder if
drinking while eating is really a bad idea.
–And going on the theory that it flushes everything out…couldn’t we then
eat high carb foods and then just ‘flush’ them out? …wouldn’t the water
also flush the intestines to some degree with the ‘flush’ theory?
I’m sorry if these questions seem stupid but I’m trying to make sense out of
this rule. I have a very hard time trying not to drink while eating but I’m
not looking for an excuse to eat high carbs and drink to flush…… I just
wanna figure out what the truth is.
Thanks for your help.

Not stupid questions. No question ever is. The reason you don’t eat and
drink is because it moves it through the system quicker. Allowing you to eat
more. And malabsorption is good but if you keep pushing the food out and
eating more eventually you will eat more calories than you thought possible.
Trust me. If i drink with my meal, I can eat two pieces of pizza and a small
salad. If I don’t, I can eat 1 piece of pizza and a few bites of salad.
Hence i take in more calories giving my body a chance to absorb more.
Because absorbtion takes place in the intestine as well. And therefore
pushing it out of the pouch doens’t prevent you from absorbing the calories.
Does that make sense?
