Anti-Depressants after WLS

I’ve been on Wellbutrin for several years now. It didn’t seem to be
working anymore so the doc changed me from the slow release to the
quick release, but it still doesn’t seem to be helping.
Does anyone know if we do better with certain ones after WLS than
others? I did find out that Celexa comes in liquid and wonder if
that would help.
Any input greatly appreciated.

When was your surgery? Sometimes additional stressors may require
adjustments in medication and dosage…of course, this is not a diagnosis or
a recommendation that you change medications or dosages, just that these are
factors your prescriber may want to consider. I know that some people feel
that the surgery itself can trigger depression in some people, or make those
of us with a history of depression experience an exacerbation of symptoms.
I was on Wellbutrin SR and Celexa before surgery and have remained on it
since (about a year-and-a-half post-op now). We had been concerned about
absorption of the sustained-release Wellbutrin following the gastric bypass,
but it has continued to work well for me. (I believe that one other poster
    here reported a similar experience).
As you probably know, different people respond to some antidepressants and
not others, and the reasons for these different responses are generally not

clear. So, probably you’ll get a range of responses from people here as to
antidepressants that worked for them. Often, augmenting one antidepressant
with another, especially from a different class of antidepressants, can make
a big difference. You mentioned maybe trying Celexa–is this something that
your doc has suggested? It might be worth exploring with her or him.
Again, I am not offering medical advice, just raising some points for
consideration and for discussion with your prescriber.
