Oprah and your website

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Dear Pete,
Even the music on your website brought me to tears. WOW…..what a journey
I’ve been e-mailing your story to some friends and family. Thank you for
sharing your journey.
I put my head down on my computer table as I read your website. I could
relate to so much of what you said. The price of the overeating is
unbelievable. I am 56 yrs. old, abt. 360lbs. many comorbidities. I am
awaiting an open RNY. I need my foot to heal from diabetic ulcers that
have almost cost me my foot 2 or 3 times. About 4 weeks ago ulcerations
showed up as broken blisters as I awaited the two on the ball of my foot
they formed a butterfly….When I saw that heal in that form it was… then
I knew God was sending me a message I had prayed for. The butterfly was an
insignia from Overeater’s Anonymous, It
meant freedom from overeating. I have a butterfly ring given to me by my
spouse after I lost 103lbs. It is very special to me even today…because

weight gain after WLS

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

I would like to know how is it that people who have had open RNY are
able to gain all their weight back. Do they eat all day? I thought
that getting a small pouch and an intestinal bypass would make it
possible not to gain the weight back. So how do they do it, how do
they fail? Just want to know so that I won’t be one of them. Also, how
do I get on the graduate list? Thanks, Donna RNY 3-01-02 278/174/165

4 hours drive

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

I am planning to have surgery in San Antonio but the problem is that
I will have no one there with me post op. My family will be unable
to go with me and my son will be staying with my mother here. I will
have to find another way to take care of this problem on my own which
is kind of depressing because I will be all alone in a city with no
family and no friends. I am not sure about doing the surgery for
that reason. I have not had my initial consultation with the doctor
(Dr. Duperier) yet and have not even started with the insurance
company ting yet. I work at an HCA facility hospital in McAllen TX
and if the insurance company approves I will be 100% covered for the
hospital stay (i hope) and since Dr. Duperier is a contracted
provider with my insurance hopefully everything will go well. The
insurance that I have is First health…….anybody heard anything
about them???
Still considering

Anti-Depressants after WLS

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

I’ve been on Wellbutrin for several years now. It didn’t seem to be
working anymore so the doc changed me from the slow release to the
quick release, but it still doesn’t seem to be helping.
Does anyone know if we do better with certain ones after WLS than
others? I did find out that Celexa comes in liquid and wonder if
that would help.
Any input greatly appreciated.

STILL waiting.

Friday, August 26th, 2005

well here i am still waiting for my second surgeon to accept me as a
surgery canidate. the first surgeon i picked had accepted me but
because of the high mal practice insurance rates, he has decided to
leaving his medical practice. I started this whole think 10/5. i’ve
heard sometimes it can take over a year. with all my medical
conditions, i don’t know if i can last a year without this surgery.
if you would look up the word depressed in a dictionary, you’d find
my picture. *sigh*

Hi Ray…
thanks for the information on the pouch stretching study. Can you elaborate
on the above comment? “how the pouch is used”?

11 days post op

Friday, August 26th, 2005

I did not have two surgeries ( gall bladder already gone), but I did
experience sharp burning pain that I too had to hold tightly to the left of
my incision line.
I am 4 wks post op and when I made my first return visit, they explained this
is the stomach area and a large stitch was made in this area - made sense to
me. I still feel it occ when I do a lot, but it is much better.

Slim fast commercial

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Hey everybody,
This may be a dumb question but, am I the only one bothered
by the new slim fast commercials? The one were the woman says “I feel
like I’m doing it the right way”. Just wondering.

Big Pete

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Steve,
I caught Oprah’s show yesterday and saw Pete. He looked great. I’m trying to
remember which man this was. There were 2 men, one that weighed over 500lbs and
another around 350lbs.
The heavier man looked great and said he never knew what Mickey Mouse looked
like because he had not been out of his home in over 20 years, he went to
Disneyworld and finally got to meet Mickey (that was too cute of a story). He
cannot walk that well due towards knee cartiledge damage because of his weight
and needs to go in for knee surgery some day. I think he now weighs around
240lbs? Some where in there.
The other gentlemen that lost over 100 lbs (conventional way) looked great also
and went on his first date in over 20 years.
I kept thinking to myself, knowing how I had gained back all my weight when I
dieted the traditional way and gained more on top of that, I hope this man keeps
it off. Sometimes, we have no control over the grehlin and leptin hormonal

About vitamins…

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Hi all I am so darn confused about vitamins, I called my Dr because I had asked
for some advise on here & liked what I got but my Dr told me to do a test, Take
one of each vitamin put it in water for 15 minutes if it is dissolved your
getting it if it isn’t your not getting anything from it at ALL…
Here is my results for the pills I am taking which are mostly if not all from
Sam’s club…
My Iron, Zinc, & Vitamin C “DID NOT” dissolve not even alittle… My Calcium,
B-12, & the PreNatal one DID all dissolve completely…..
SO now I am stuck with all these useless vitamins & strapped very tight for
money to buy new ones :( very depressing. Thinking I was doing good by buying
the giant sized bottles at Sam’s to save money only to find out I have wasted
ALOT of money :( This really bites the big one just when I thought & felt I had researched
everything I needed before only to find out major information after surgery…
I am just not having a good day at all… *hugs* Tammy
