is it ok to add milk to protein shakes?

by show of hands, how many hereuse water and how many use milk? On
this same, level I also ten to add 1-2 table spoon of sugar…
otherwise this stuff tastes horrible. I am doing something wrong.
Are there other people who can tolerate sugar and if so, how much?

Milk adds a bit of extra protein, but really, just more calories and lactose
(milk sugar). In my first few months after surgery I would occasionally mix
my protein with milk if I knew I hadn’t eaten as much that day as I should
have, but for the most part I mixed with water.
But for heavens sake, don’t *add* sugar to your shake! Gha! Empty calories
are things you really want to stay away from, and that’s all that sugar is.
I would STRONGLY urge you to stay away from sugar, whether you can tolerate
it or not. It does your body no good, what-so-ever.
What kind of protein are you using? Something that’s flavored? Perhaps you
can add a bit of Splenda or Stevia extract, Equal or something similar.

I added milk to mine for the added protein - I also added some
additional powdered skim milk - for additional protein and some
substance. I had no problem with lactose intolerance (which would be a
    real limiting factor in that).
I added Splenda to mine. I wouldn’t add sugar. Whether you can
tolerate it or not, there’s nothing nutritional about it, just empty
    calories.

I dont use those protein package mixes so I can’t comment on the water/milk
debate. But I will suggest you use non-fat milk. And instead of sugar, use
Splenda or Equal and sweeten to your heart’s content. I drink the Atkins
shakes right out of the can and think they’re great.

I was lactose intolerant after surgery and any sugar also makes me dump.
Try Splenda or Nutrasweet to uncooked drinks. It is almost as good as
    sugar.
