Realistic Return to Work

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

I am scheduled for lap RNY on 3/7 and spoke with one of my coworkers
today, who also had a lap RNY about 10 months ago. I do not have a
very physical job. It is about half and half walking and sitting at
a desk. I am hoping to return to work in about 2 weeks and work 4
hours a day for the next week. She thinks I am being unrealistic in
my expectations. I know everyone is different in their healing
process. I had my child by c/s and did extremely well after that
surgery. Of course, I was 10 years younger! I’m not sure if she was
concerned about my healing or adjusting to the pouch and eating. I
would appreciate some input from you all. By the way, I only have
about 3 1/2 weeks of sick leave. Thanks for the help and keep me in
your prayers! Kim

ONE HURDLE CLEARED!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

OMG! THE SURGEON HAS FINALLY ACCEPTED ME AS A CANIDATE!!!!!!! I HAVE
BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG FOR JUST THIS STEP!!!!!!!!
Now on to the insurance company and I’ve requested that all my medical
records be sent. I think that will help instead of just sending the
approval from the surgeon and my pcp!
I am soooo happy even if it’s just the first step!
wooooowhoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

CALLING ALL SUPPORT!!!!

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Ok Gang,
I am back and frazzled once again. I wrote some months back with
doubts about getting this surgery and everyone was very supportive.
I have just had my first consult and I am starting to doubt whether I
will be able to pull this thing off. I thought I was well informed
about this surgery but I am not in the area of the WLS diet.
How in God’s name will I be able to drink all the fluids that are
required if my pouch is about the size of a finger? How will I go
from eating A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G I want as fast as I can swallow it to
eating bird sized portions and making it last 30-40 minutes? How in
the world will I be able to eat dry foods without a sip of drink to
wash it down? How do you sip? I have never sipped anything in my
life! I am the kind of person who puts ice in hot tea and hot
chocolate so that I can gulp it down. This surgery requires a
tremendous amount of strength and restraint. If I don’t possess it

Hi from the UK

I had my WLS on the 7th Feb - 3 weeks ago today. I’m still a little
nervous and unsure I think. I’ve lost nearly 5kg to date and am
devastated - I suppose I expected more (considering the first 4 went
in week 1) but alas not. I’m exercising - I’ve been to the gym 4
times this week. Obviously taking it a little slower then usual.
I’m having Yogurt or Porridge for breakies ; Soup for lunch and Soup
for dinner (with a little mash)
Some fruit juice in-between and perhaps tea and coffee, nothing much
else though. I’m eating
(I use that word rather liberally) less then my dietitian
recommended but can’t actually handle any more for the moment.
Anyone have some advise - am I doing something wrong? Shouldn’t I be
loosing faster (in this 6 week liquid phase?)

protein drinks, proper usage?

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Hello, I am new to the group. I had lap RNY on Feb 7th and just
received my protein samples I ordered. The question I have is when do
I drink them; as meal replacement or as a snack? Presently, I am only
able to eat about 2 spoonsful of food, if this matters.

Another reason NOT to use caffeine products is that caffeine blocks the
absorption of iron.

Breast Reduction & Panni

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Having been foiled in my attempts to get wls covered by my insurance (the
infamous Regence BCBS-PEBB), I have now been able to secure a surgical date for
a Breast Reduction and a Pannilectomy by a local surgeon here in Eugene. His
office feels
Regence will cover both surgeries because those areas are causing me numerous
health problems, and of course, there’s no mention of the dreaded “obesity” in
the coding–even though I am M.O.
Anyway, has anyone out there had these two surgical procedures done, either
before or after wls? Can you tell me what you experienced? I am very excited to
be able to at least do this much–but understandably nervous as well.
Thanks for any input you might have.

Just had to share…Kinda long

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

Ok, for the past few weeks I’m just kind of being a whiny butt because I’ve
stayed within the same few pounds (cry me a river, I know!) So I got to thinking
about how everyone says when you are not losing pounds, you are losing inches
and your body is morphing.
Well, a few weeks ago a friend of mine gave me some size 18 petite jeans. I got
em over my butt, but no way they were getting zipped or buttoned. Today for
kicks, I pulled them out and put them on.
I CAN ZIP THEM AND BUTTON THEM WITH EASE!!!!!!
WHOOHOO!!(Shouting with joy!)
I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I think that I can fit into a size 18
and six months ago (6 month anniversary tomorrow) I was a size 30/32.
What a ride!!

-106 pounds @ 6 months post op!

I NEVER thought this was possible!!

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

Ok everyone. I posted on Monday saying I’d lost 24 lbs. I went to
see my surgeon yesterday for my one month post op appointment. When
I weighed…I have now lost 27 lbs!!! I lost 3 lbs in 2 days??!!?
WOOHOOOO I’m thinking this is SO much fun!! Some clothes that
didn’t fit me before surgery now fit. All in a month! This is
truly amazing to me. I think I’m giddy. haha
