Hi there–
Wow– are you all wonderful in sharing your experiences– what a difference
it makes for a pre-op like me. And those WLS Surveys– those are GREAT–
please respond to those cause I am taking all your experiences and your
suggestions to heart as I get ready for surgery.
One thing I haven’t seen is about stress and WLS.
I work in the news business– so I am on deadlines all the time, under
incredible pressure, in an environment where people scream at each other on a
regular basis (fun, right?… well, actually, it IS fascinating!)
Since I am now really working on listening to my body (in prep for post LS
and just a good thing in general), I noticed that last week, I was really
under stress… I felt my stomach in “knots”… tense around the stomach
area, acid churning… the whole bit.
I am now concerned about that type of situation post LS… whether that will
be a problem keeping food and liquids down under this type of stress…

every a.m. for my breakfast.

Hi , I.m Cheryl and have been hanging out her for a while but never posted till
now. I am post op open rny 10 weeks (1/3/03) Last Sunday, after my husband and i
were wrestling with our 100 lb german shepard who was bleeding, (my husband was
trying to hold him and i was trying to control the bleeding) I began
experiencing left upper quadrant abd pain. I laid in bed all afternoon with a
heating pad thinking i had pulled a muscle. Within 5 hours my husband had to
take me to the ER. I was hunched over and could barely walk. I had a low grade
fever and an elevated white count. the CT of my abd showed an “inflammatory
process” at the anastomosis site. I was admitted for IV antibiotics and
hydration.Kept npo for two days then started on clear liguids. Also on a
morphine pump for pain control. I was discharged after 4 days and am still
gaining my strength back.
so for all us newbies out there when you think all is going great (like i did)
you still need to be careful…….

Hello Everyone,
I have a surgery date of July 15, 2003. I was very surprised it was this
quick, i was guessing August or September the lastest. Now that i have the
official date I now know it is reality and it is hitting me hard. I cried
last night because all I can think about is my daughter and hoping that this
surgery is successful.
I have chosen to have my gall bladder taken out also since my mom and my
sister have already had theirs taken out. I figured I would save my self from
having to have that taken out down the road. Anyways, I am on my way to my
new life and taking this walk slowly.

Hey all,
I just wanted to share this with those who may be thinking about ordering from
this company. I was recommending them as their service was excellent and prices
were good. But now I am NOT!! This is the second case I know of this week
involving ordering on-line from this company. The other person never got their
bars, although they were never charged for them either.
I ordered and received the detour and u-turn bars using my debit card. About 1
week later,(yesterday) I got a call from my bank’s fraud dept. They wanted to
verify some charges on my card. There were 7 charges made on the internet that
were not mine. Totaling about $1500.00. Thank God they were suspicious and
called me. Someone has my card #, address, phone #, and even the security code
on the back of my card. Kind of creepy!!! Fortunately the card was cancelled
immediately and none of the charges were paid. Makes one wonder if it is the
company, an employee of the company or just some hacker who is the culpret. I
order alot on line and this has never happened before. I had no idea who it

1. What the the top 3 things you did right in your first year post-op
that you believe caused you do maximize the benefits of your surgery?
1-started an excercise program- for me it was yoga, 2 times a week, as well
as swimming 1 hour a day when it is warm enough, and walking my dogs or
riding my bike for an hour when it isn’t.
2-stuck mostly to a low carbohydrate diet- it maximizes weight lose, at
least for me
3-attend my support group regularly- it helps me keep on track when I am
tempted to stray
2. If you had it to do over again, what things would you have done
differently in order to realize even greater benefits in that all-
important window of opportunity for weight loss that I’ve heard so
much about?
None- I have lost 152 pounds in 10 months- I think it would have been pretty

Hi all I just called & got through to Laura @ Dr.Schauer’s office…She put me
through to make my apt….
Oh yeah I need to be seen, Would you like to know when???? Wednesday April
2nd,… Oh yeah it appears to me that I am not an emergency so I told the lady
to put me back through to Laura & of course I got her voice mail. & I simply
told her things better change by Monday & she better call me back with a apt
sooner then April 2nd because I will call & have Dr.Schauer paiged over the
week-end & tell him what the hell has been going on I am soooooo sick of her
BULLSHIT!!! & I will do it I have done it before when she dont think I need to
be seen & I have told her to her face she better stop acting like a Dr & be the
so called nurse she is suppose to be…
So I am waiting for their response back to me?????? AGAIN I wait….

HI,
I am having my surgery on 3/25. I thought I had heard all about the different
side effects from this surgery, but lately I have been reading about bodily
odors. Can anyone tell me what this is and what causes it? I would really
appreciate any input.
