technical question
Ray, Barb, Denise, or anyone else for that matter,
Is there any data on what percentage of your caloric intake is mal-
absorbed after an RNY bypass?
Just curious.

What i have been told by BTC is that you malabsorb anywhere from 25% to I
think 40% when you first have surgery. However over the first year the body
readjusts so that you only continue to malabsorb approximately 10% of less.
Where to find this published i do not know. This information was relayed to
me in October 2001 by a nutritionist at a support group leaders meeting.

Hello joecristr1@…,
In reference to your comment:

Since most RNY’s are proximal, I’d guess very little. The RNY is based
mostly on restriction, not malapsorption. YMMV
