Pain and Lap RNY

I am so glad I have you all to be my sounding board! I had Lap RNY
on 3/7/03 and am just over 3 weeks out. Since about a little over 2
weeks out, I started having this pain around the largest incision
site. I spoke with the surgeon on call about it earlier this week
and he said I had a sprain since I had no fever or redness at the
site. I can’t bend at all from the waist and can’t even reach to my
knee on the left side from a standing position without a very burning
pain that also has a pulling, sharp feeling as well. I can’t sleep in
my bed as that can be excruciating depending on how I lie. I still
have no signs or symptoms of an infection. The pain is not constant
but is positional. I have my 1 month followup this week but wanted to
get some input from you all. Thanks, Kim

    Kim,
I’m almost 6 months out from a lap RNY and what you describe doesn’t sound
unusual. For a few weeks after my lap I couldn’t sleep on my side because of
an intense pulling type pain. It will go away eventually. I would say that
if it isn’t better by 6 weeks contact your surgeon again and ask him about
    it.
