Coral Calcium
I saw a TV infomercial about “Bob Barefoot’s Coral Calcium” being
way superior to other calciums and way more easily aborbed, and its
in capsule form. So, on impulse, I ordered three bottles. Now I’m
sitting here wondering about what I got. It doesn’t say calcium
citrate on it anywhere. It includes Vit. D and Magnesium and Boron
(and boron I recently read on site is something we should have) and
alot of other vitamins and minerals. Three capsules give you 1000
mg coral calcium.
Does anybody know if we can ingest and readily absorb coral
calcium? Has anybody else hear of this “Bob Barefoot” guy? Or am I
the only one to see this infomercial on TV? I seem to recall
someone saying that calcium from oysters is not the right kind for
us. So that made me wonder about it being from corals.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Chris,
I’ve seen Bob Barefoot’s infomercials on Coral Calcium and it does sound
amazing. However, I think coral calcium is really calcium carbonate. I could
be wrong but that’s what I remember hearing from others. Plus it is VERY
expensive!

At our last support group someone asked about the coral calcium. The
nutritionist said that they couldn’t be sure of its purity. Many times it
may come from waters that have high lead counts, among other pollutants.
Also, the high cost………….
Just some input.

Not too long ago I happened by a noonday news program in which they were
interviewing a physician about various things. Coral calcium as a supplement
came up. The response the dr. gave was that there is not enough data in to
support it being a great source of calcium and like someone already said it’s
expensive. The dr. suggested that those of us taking calcium supplements
need to continue to take the calcium citrate supplements; however, she did
say that IF you chose to take the calcium carbonate you needed to be aware
that you needed A WHOLE LOT MORE of it to get the same effect as in taking
the calcium citrate.
Just my 2 cents worth.
