Karen,
And my doctor recommended Calcium Carbonate. Our surgeons are wonderful at
what they do but as far as our nutritional needs, they have a lot to learn!
Take a lesson from those who have gone before us and have learned from
experience. Calcium Citrate is the ONLY form of calcium appropriate for us
WLS people!

Karen,
IMHO, it’s their job to be experts at the surgery and leave the nutritional
stuff to the RDs. Sure, it would be wonderful if we could get an exceptional
surgeon who did his research and was up to the minute on our dietary needs. I
think that is more the exception than the case. My surgeon is so adament about
NOT doing the protein shakes, my RD even told me don’t tell him I’m doing them!

My doctor also said to take two tums a day for calcium??? However, after being
in this group for a while, I hadn’t planned on the 2 Tums a day.. But… I’m
wondering how doctors can be so uninformed???

Just my 2cents……..
The nutritionist and RD here swear that Tums is OK for Bypass patients.
Personally, I have been taking Citrical w/D for years and plan to continue
(found it in capsule from at Vitamin Shoppe).
I am a bit confused about the shakes……….I am 6 days post op and not
having any problems (knocking on wood). When are the shakes uses and do they
replace a meal or supplement it? I found Pure Protein in Trader Joe’s and
its 35gms. of protein and 1gm of sugar. The vanilla is pretty good.
Any input?
Thanks,
Sandi
