Question about Medic Alert

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

I have been thinking about getting a medic alert bracelet or
necklace. The question is, exactly what does one put on the thing? I
had a lap RnY. Do I put GBS Lap RnY? RGB? RYGBP? What would be most
recognizable to paramedics and doctors? Should I also state: NO NG
Tube?
Thanks!

My appetite has returned-Appetite control meds??

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

I am 2 weeks away from my 1 year anniversary and I have lost 100
pounds. I still need to lose 30-35 more. At 5′5 1/2″, I should be
in the 140’s, but I haven’t lost in 4 months! My appetite is back
and I am having a hard time. I am yo yo ing within the same 5 lb
area.
Does anyone know anything about whether or not doctors will prescribe
appetite suppressants to WLS patient. A prescription worked wonders
for me in the past to get off a stubborn 30 lbs., when I was
younger. I know this would help, what is the prevailing opinion?
I would appreciate your help.
Thanks!!

Post op meds

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Hi all:
I am 3 weeks post op and doing well. I am still eating purees for the most
part, and dying for a good salad.
My question is, how do we know if our meds (I take wellbutrin, atavan,
synthroid and vioxx) are being absorbed properly? A friend who had WLS 7
weeks ago just found out her TSH is out of control because her synthroid is
malabsorbed. TSH should be 2-4 hers was 22! This is also slowing her weight
loss at a most critical time.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks for being there.

One week away from wls

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Never thought I would do this - I thought it was a cop-out and a failure. Now I
feel hopeful for the first time in a very long time. Your postings have been so
helpful. The bottom line is expect anything and cope with it. It’s good to
know you are all out there. My date is May 13 at Norwalk Hospital and I am
excited and nervous. Thanks for the support.

How to handle the food police

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

I went to a club outing this weekend and saw a number of people I
hadn’t seen in several months. Everyone was complimentary about my
weight loss, which always feels good. The event included a picnic
lunch; each couple brought their own lunch and some brought appetizers
or desserts to share. My contribution was a can of peanuts. As I
helped myself to a few, one of the fellows there shook his finger at
me and went “unh unh.” I said “these are healthy, I can eat a few.”
At the end of the event another woman and I were cleaning up; she had
put together a plate of leftover desserts for the host, but she
expressed hesitation at bringing them into the kitchen for fear of
tempting the hostess. The hostess had RNY several years ago with
moderate success; she’s still overweight, but much less so than
before, and she has other health problems which are much improved, but
still there: diabetes, sleep apnea, bad arthritis (she’s had knee
replacement surgery). I got a bit irritated at this “protective”

Checking in for the first time since surgery

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Hello Everyone,
Well it has been a long time since I have written. I had my open RNY
back on Feb 18th.
(Barb, Your message was a true blessing to me. Congrats to you and
Sarah, may you both have many, many years of love and happiness!!!)
I have had a hard time with dehydration (even been hospitalized for
two days for it) because I am a “lucky” one that gets diareaha with
just about everything I eat. I have developed lactose intolerence
since my surgery, but have found that I can take some lactose pills
and they do help some. I also have developed some rather serious
depression however I believe that to be related to some other factors
than just the surgery, like an injury in my shoulder and the diareaha.
I am also one of the lucky ones that dump but for that I am truly
thankful because it will help keep in in check!
Now that I have complained let me say this.. I would have the surgery

severe stomach pain

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Ok, I know I’m not supposed to ask for medical advice but I just need
to know if anyone else has had this happen to them. Today I got my
period…which made me feel crampy…but nothing that I couldnt
handle. It got progressively worse as the day went on and around 8pm
I took 2 midol hoping it would help. Well it only got worse and now
I am doubled over in the most horrid pain I’ve ever had. I have
thrown up about 7-8 times since 9pm and its almost midnight. Nothing
comes up but a greenish yellow liquid (not much) that tastes
horrible…like poison. The only thing I ate that couldve made it
worse was a choc. covered graham cracker pretzel thing…but I’ve
eaten sugar before with no problem so I don’t know if that is causing
it. I am 7 months post op and have never had any problems until
now…if anyone has any suggestions or anything similiar happen to
them please let me know. I don’t know how long I should suffer
through this pain…I’ve never felt anything like this in my life!

Introduction - Approved and scheduled for 5/21

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Hi all - just wanted to introduce myself. I got approved last week
by Cigna HMO and I am scheduled for surgery on May 21. My doctor
schedules you before submitting to insurance so Im real lucky I dont
have to wait that long. Feeling really excited about it. Only
about two weeks but the days are going by VERY slowly - can’t wait
to get it done and start my new life.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

RNY 3/6 and I’m soooo happy

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

OK - so I’m very new at this message board thing, but I just want to
give all the support I can to anyone considering this miraculous
surgery - it’s saved my life! It’s given me hope!! I’m off so many
medications - blood pressure, diabetic, one of my two
antidepressants, my sleep apnea machine - life is good! Today I went
shopping - and I am not one of those who likes to shop…really…my
pant size has gone from a 28/30 to a 22 in 8 weeks - 56 pounds. I
have a long way to go but I feel so full of hope. If someone out
there can tell me how I can use this wonderful web site to locate a
support group meeting in my area (Edmonds, WA @ Stevens Hospital) I
would appreciate that information.
Thanks,
Sue
