Hi All,
Well, I finally got around to getting my pre-op pics scanned and

10 days out with question

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Well the pain is alot better than it was. I still have diarrhea and
that takes it’s toll on me. The doc gave me Flagyl which is the most
bitter pill I ever swallowed.
I have a question regarding my abdomen. I’ve lost 20 lbs in 10 days.
(I was really sick)My stomach is very swollen. When does the
swelling go down so I can put on pants? Even with the 20 lb weight
loss my old pants are too tight right now.

Help Pass House Bill at Louisiana State Capitol

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Hi all . I just wanted to make everyone aware of a bill coming before
the legislature this week Thursday May 8, 2003. It will seek approval
for employers to allow Weight loss surgery as an insurance option. We
will have a group from my office at NeWeigh going to support the
bill. If you know anyone who has had, hopes to have or been denied
WLS please encourage them to meet us at the state capitol in Baton
Rouge on Thursday. For more info you can call me at the office at 225-
768-1401. Thanks B.

Tylenol

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Stephanie,
I too relied on Advil for headaches, cramps etc; pre-op as Tylenol did
absolutely nothing for me. Post-op, things have shifted. Tylenol does indeed
work for me now. And I’ve noticed that since surgery my monthly cramps have
diminished considerably so much so that I hardly ever have to take anything.
Give the Tylenol a try post-op, it just might work for you too!

Even the Strongest…

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Barbara,
You have expressed so many of the things I fear about having this surgery. Been
sitting here mulling this over for 20 minutes or so. I have put off sending my
packet in to Dr. Baker (Little Rock, AR) for months. I feel like a light bulb
just went on over my head…and me a Licensed Counselor. HAH! It’s been ages
since I posted…and had even stopped reading for a couple of months. I told
myself I didn’t have time. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in January
(she had a lumpectomy and all lymph nodes and other tests were clear - she just
finished her last radiation and is doing well, thank all gods) plus my husband
and I went through the hell of buying a house and moving. Too busy, yeah that’s
it. WhatEVer.
John, my husband and the dearest love of my life, is several years younger than
I and I do depend on him for so many things I can’t do because of my weight and
various things exacerbated by my weight. He’s so fit, it’s nauseating. I wonder
if I am some sort of mother-image to him and if I no longer represent that, will

Anti-depressant question

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

I have another question about medication - I know that WHEN I am a
postop (I hope I hope I hope!) I will no longer be able to take my
beloved Advil. I have TMJ, which causes frequent headaches. That is the
one health issue I have that no one has been able to blame on my
weight. :-) Anyway, what will I be able to take after surgery for
headaches/jaw pain? From what I gather, Advil, aspirin, and Aleve are
all out. Tylenol does almost nothing for me, and I don’t know if I would
be able to use it anyway. Any ideas? If no one knows, I am going to an
info session with my (possible) surgeon this Wednesday, and I will ask
then.

Two Years Anniversery

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Dear Group,
Well on May 14th will be my two year anniversary
for WLS. I had open RNY and have never regreted it. I
have lost 140pounds, and still need to lose about 15
pounds. I can wear size 10 pants and med tops. I never
thought I would ever be this small. I always thought I
was big boned, thats what I always told everyone. I
have actually LIVED This last year to its fullest. I
was once 308pounds and wore size 26-28 clothing, Which
is x3 tops and dresses. I thought I was doomed forever
to be fat and trapped in my fat body for all time. I
had borderline diebetes, sleep apnea with a C-pap
machine on 15. I walked with a cane because the weight
wore out the ligaments in my knees, I was watching the
world having fun and living, while I only watched and

Kathy’s Home!

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Just wanted to let you all know that Kathy is home from her surgery this
afternoon. She is in pain, but on drugs to help keep it in check. She is moving
around pretty well all things considered. She isn’t in the mood to talk right
now, but maybe tomorrow she will feel more like it. Thanks to all of you for
your support! Doug

Surgery is a personal decision

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Each person has to decide for themselves. I had over
25 yrs. of medically supervised diets that eventually
failed - each time ending up heavier than when I
started. This nonsense started when I turned 14 so by
age 40 there was just no bouncing back after all that
monkeying with my metabolism.
Additionally I looked at my genetic future - the
medical histories of my grandparents and the current
medical status of my parents. I knew I was doomed to
high BP, coronary dx, high cholesterol, arthritis, and
diabetes if I didn’t do something drastic.
Additionally the chronic fatique from all the extra
weight was seriously impacting my quality of life and
my career. So on 2/20/03 I started living the best
half of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat
