Did ya hear me?

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Okay … Walking week 2 day two.
Goal for the day according to the program was to walk a mile in 18 minutes. 1
mile. 18 minutes.
Walked the one mile. (As I side note I know why I have felt bloated and fat –
my period started today — which also explains the craving for chocolate and why
I no longer want anythign chocolate). Hopefully I will start losing again if i
keep up the walking. Anyway I walked the one mile.
Last week when I started it took me over 22 minutes to walk a mile. Today I
walked it in — DRUM ROLL please! — 14:44 … 14 minutes and 44 seconds. Of
course this was not like walking. It was more like running with my short little
legs. I promptly collapsed at the 15 minute mark — not collapsed but more like
slowed down, walked over to the bed and fell over. I am sweating like a pig and
I have (and had) the air conditioning running the entire time. How can anyone
say that pace is WALKING? I was jogging for most of it. But I did it. I BROKE
THE 15 MINUTE MILE! WHich for me — lets just say I am extremely freaking proud

Newbie-Trouble convincing Hubby

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Hello everyone,
First off I want to Thank all of you for your input. I don’t think I could have
made my decision to have WLS without you. I am still trying to get approval but
I have high hopes that it will go through.
I am having a problem communicating with my husband about what is going to
happen to “me” if (when) I get this done. Basically he thinks that it is
simple…I will lose a bunch of weight and look like every other small person.
I have been trying to explain to him that not every body reacts the same to
rapid weight loss but I don’t think he gets it. I was wondering if any of you
would be kind enough to share some of your personal websites with me. Maybe some
of you started your journey about the size that I am now. I really hope this is
coming across ok. I am 32, 5′4″ and 280 lbs. I have been overweight my whole
life and over 200 lbs since highschool. I cannot wait to be on the otherside.
Thank you all. Feel free to email personally to laziduck2003@…

Sapala-Wood Micropouch

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Has anyone had the “Sapala-Wood Micropouch” Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
surgery? I’ve read about it only on their web site
www.micropouch.com. (nothing else is out on the internet about it).
This procedure consists of a 1-2 cc pouch (compared to the standard
15-30 cc pouch) and is bypassed distally. The purpose of this is to
not re-gain any weight in the future when your pouch stretches. If
so, could you tell me about your experience with it, how did it work
or not work for you, etc.
I am pre-op and am going through the hoops now with a doctor to have
a standard lap RNY but if there’s something better out there I’d like
to know. I’m afraid of gaining weight in future years. Thanks!
Sheila

I have a cold!

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I took NyQuil for my cold. My surgeons office (Alvarado) said it was fine, just
don’t drive or do anything like that because you don’t know how hard/fast it
will hit you.

stomach blood clot

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Has anyone heard of anyone receiving a near fatal blood clot in their
stomach a year 1/2 out from surgery?
I was at a get together over the weekend, this women I met mentioned a friend of
hers that lived in Kansas or Kentucky (she couldn’t remember) had this surgery
and one year out and 1/2, she ended up in the ER with major stomach pains, they
couldn’t find anything wrong with her and sent her home. Later, she returned to
ER and they found a blood clot in her stomach and adhesions.
I wanted to put this out there to hear if anyone has ever heard of anyone
receiving a blood clot in this area.

Walking week 2 day 1

Monday, February 27th, 2006

And the saga continues.
I slowed down a bit today. Took 36: 34 to do two miles. COmpleted the first mile
in a bit over 16:30 minutes. But I started work today and had to wear heels
which resulted in a blister on my heel. Excuses I know. But I still feel better
that I actually walked. Also I parked about three blocks from the place where I
worked and walked the rest of the way. It is a cheap parking lot. I got monthly
parking in June paid for at another lot ($40 a month) but the lot I found today
would only be $22 a month so I will switch over to it for July and August. So i
will be walking at least six blocks a day! Yeah me! I won’t walk the stairs in
the building at this point — seven floors in heels? Uh no. But I did my two
miles today. YEAH ME! I am continuing with this program. Now tomorrow’s goal for
the program is to aim for 1 mile in 18 miles. Ummmmm.. did that last week. So I
will aim for 1 mile in the fastest time I can possibly do it in. And hopefully I
will have my air conditioning up and running at that point. It will make it
easier. But I did it.

1 week post, open RNY

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Since my HMO has an “iron clad” exclusion, I’ve self paid my way to
the loosing side by finding an excellent surgeon in Ensenada, MX.
I get my staples out tomorrow and am going to spend the rest of the
week walking around town, harbor, beach. I’m getting to know “the
new me” without the distractions of home and without emptying my bank
account too much.
Cheers,
Jim Gilson

I’m back…lol
