New to group looking for advice
Its been two weeks since my surgery and it has been an ok journey. I
guess even with all the research it is hard to tell exactly what to
expect afterwards. Im having a real hard time eating the liquid diet.
I never was a big soup person before and now I just don’t want to
eat. And the protein shakes, that is taking an act of god to finish
one 12 ounce glass a day they are really heavy and don’t make me feel
well.I really want to make this work, does anyone have any tips or
suggestions, recipes or what not. Anyways any help or friendly words
would be great.
Thanks

Jenna, what brand of shake are you using? Most of them were too thick
for me, too - but the vanilla zero-carb isopure is fantastic for me.
It’s very thin. You can get a sample of it (and lots of other kinds of
proteins) from vitalady.com.
Good luck with the liquid diet, I don’t have any great advice there but
I think if you can get a decent protein shake at least you can meet the
basic nutritional needs.

I mostly lived on yogurt and sugar free pudding if you can tolerate dairy. Only
1 or 2 spoons though, in teeny bites filled me up and sometimes only 1 or 2
times per day. After the presurgery liquid diet I can not even stomach the
thought of broth or jello.
I had so little appetite for so long that when I went for my 6 week check up I
was certain things weren’t right. My doctor pointed out that that was the point
of the surgery. Your appetite will return. He said if you aren’t hungry don’t
eat. Do however, get your water in. Even a couple sips of protein shake filled
me at that point.
Good luck, keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Jenna,
I had my surgery on July 29th 2002 at 535lbs and I am now 360lbs. At about 7
days I started on a soft diet and it consisted of tuna on crackers, peanut
butter and crackers or toast. ground meat, like taco meat and I could tolerate
a taco shell with some cheese, no lettuce though and I didnt do the tomato thing
until about a week later. Refried beans was a favorite and i could mix it with
the taco meat and some cheese. Now mind you this was only about a tablespoon
maybe two, thats about all it took and I ate very slowly because how fast you
eat your food can irritate your stomach and then you might think that it is the
food when it fact it was not the food at all. So remember that when you think
that you were not able to tolerate that doent mean that you cant handle it, just
could be how fast it went down. I did check with my doctor because I was
concerned about getting my protien in and forcing myself to eat and drink the
protein shakes. She said DONT eat because you feel like you have to eat. This
is a habit. You can do without food if you are not hungry just make sure you
get your water… that was from my doctor and ever since I don’t force myself to
eat anymore and thus, the weight loss. So, dont force it into your stomach,
just get your water for sure and the rest will fall into place. Hope this
helps!
