I need some help…

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Hi all…I’m not usually a poster–more of a reader, but I really
need some help now and I hope you’re the folks who can give it to me.
I am almost four-weeks post-op. (down about 30 lbs.) My problem is
that I can’t eat or drink anything. I don’t mean physically. I can
swallow. I mean that nothing sounds appealing anymore. I can’t get
in my water. I’m not taking my vitamins or prescriptions. This is
a huge change in me. I used to take my vitamins and scripts
religiously. (And don’t even get me started with my eating…let’s
just say I didn’t miss many meals) Now I’m not eating enough
(protein or otherwise) Any food sounds just gross (like I want to
vomit gross). The very thought of it is too much. I had a bout
with dehydration about a week and a half ago and I’m not at that
point now, but I’m trying to avoid it and do what I’m supposed to be
doing.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? I don’t know what to

Gab’s problem -

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

I think the acidophilus is a good idea, if it doesn’t work, our doc prescribes
something. I think it’s an anti-yeast med, like diflucan? I’ll check with my
friend on Wed., she has a scrip.
Good luck -

Request Thoughts & Prayers

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Surgery: Monday, May 19, 2003 @ 7:30am @ Good Sam. in Phx., AZ
Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Abdominal/Panni/Mons
Hi Everyone! Kindly requesting Thought & Prayers, with much thanks. A bit
nervous, barely can sleep, no matter how hard I try last serval nites now.
But that’s just me at times like this. Had a immediate problem when I had my
WLS causing me to go back 72 hrs. later to surgery again….so guess that
makes me a bit nervous, but I believe this is going to be a most postive
surgery and just asking for those of you to just remember me at this time.
Thankyou & God Bless.

OSSG-drinking (new list)

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Hello.
Have you had weight loss surgery and wonder if you’re drinking more
than you should? If you’re concerned that you may be replacing one
bad habit with another, this list is for you. You don’t have to be
committed to abstaining from alcohol to join this list. Together, we
can decide how much alcohol is safe for us to consume and figure out
ways to control our drinking.
It would help me to simply have a group of people to help hold me
accountable for how much I drink.
If you are in AA or another 12 step program, please join us. Your
experiences might help some people get to a group that could help
them.
If someone is dealing with other substance abuse problems, they are
welcome.
On several OSSG lists there’s been a history of some very

I’m Psyched

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Hi All…..
I am so psyched and I just wanted to share with all of you. I went to Sears
this morning to get some clothes for work because mine are all getting way
too big. They were having great sales and I wanted everything in the store!!
The best part was…… I got into a size 12!!!!! I just stood in the
dressing room looking at myself saying “I’m in a 12, I’m in a 12″!! It was
so cool. I want to lose another 20 pounds so hopefully I will be an 8-10!
Life is good!

Walking — DAY 4

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Okay I actually did it! I walked two miles today as the program suggests.
The first mile I did in 15:48. Which is almost 7 minutes less than what i did a
mile on Wednesday. Okay the second mile went much slower. I finished two miles
in 33:08 approximately.
But the goals met for the day:
1) I walked again and went with the program of doing two miles.
2) I improved my time on the first mile.
3) I didn’t give up before both miles were finished though I felt like it. I was
tired and my feet hurt.
4) Tomorrow is the day of rest. I think I will try to skip walking. But who
knows.
Things I have learned:
1) I actually feel better since I started exercising — i even took my vitamin
today — something I have been neglecting. I know — no lectures needed please.
2) I should not walk on the treadmill in barefeet.

Received my surgery date.

Friday, February 24th, 2006

My surgery date is July 9, ‘03.
I’ve been reading and comptemplating having the GB for several years,
but I kept putting it off. Unfortuanately now I’m plagued with
weight related health issues. I was quite confident going into this
until just this week, I’m not backing out this time, but it is nerve
racking waiting for the acutal day. I’ve never been afraid to go
under the knife before, but the constant talking about the surgery
with my surgeon’s bariactric team is starting to wear on my nerves.
Too much talk from the well meaning staff is having the opposite
affect of what they hope for. I’m not the type that likes to be
overly coddled. Don’t get me wrong, this is probably one the best
teams around for this type of procedure, but they are making me
nervous. I’m aware of all the risk involved and I’m probably just
over reacting at this time, but I just had to vent somewhere tonight.
It is great to have found this group to learn how to cope with much

do not be afraid of the rny. like many others on this site it was a life saver
for me and if i had to do it once a year i would. it is no worse or better than
any surgery and no more dangerous. follow the rules within reason and you will
have good but individual results as we are not all the same. best of luck.

Diarrhea/Flagyl

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Just FYI about the diarrhea/ Flagyl thing, A)- diarrhea is a common side
effect of ALL antibiotic/antifungals. B) flagyl is a common treatment for
diarrhea caused by clostridium difficile. It’s not meant to stop the
diarrhea per se, but to kill the buggies causing it. It was probably a shot
in the dark on the part of the doc, I suspect.

even if I never lose an ounce …

Friday, February 24th, 2006

I agree!
My glucose level went from 326 pre-op to 98 post-op. Immediately post op my
glucose dropped to 160. I was on insulin in the hospital 4 times a day for 3
days but on day 4 it dropped to 124 and hasn’t been up since.
Cholesterol went from 297 to 178. No more Lipitor!!!
This alone is wonderful.
