Carbs / Veggies / Dilemma

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Just a few words. Processed/Refined carbs. Unprocessed/Unrefined
carbs. Moderation. One of the things that worked for me was NO
Processed/Refined carbs and MODERATION of natural Unprocessed/Unrefined
carbs. Just something to think about.

Hi Friends:
First off…..I AM NOT flaming nor cross talking and my intent is
definitely NOT inflammatory. Just the same, after reading about veggies being
carbs (some, like spuds, corn, peas I totally understand) I find myself
straddling a fence between chuckling and guilty self recrimination over having
diced up
some onion and green pepper with the turkey sausage that I had for dinner
last night. The other day at an OA support group I listened to a few rotund
fellow food addicts talk about binging on broccoli. I found myself wondering
just
how many of us plateaued because we had one too many carrots or overdid the
cauliflower!! For the past week I have done an about turn in my eating and
have (or at least I thought) removed major carbohydrates and definitely sugars

Six months out post op

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Well, here I am at the magic 6 months postop mark! (RNY 12/6/2002). I went in
at 429 lbs. and am now below 322 lbs. It feels good to wear clothing I
couldn’t fit in before and to wear shorts that used to fit like *underwear* on
myself! I’ve been through a lot though, and have not gotten back my strength,
which I lost due to malnutrition diagnosed at about 10 weeks out. I broke a
leg from extreme weakness and am still housebound (my condo is on the second
story of a non-elevator bldg.), but I am getting stronger through home
physical therapy through the local VNA. I had a horrible wound complication
from my surgery (severe wound abscess) that resulted in a very long healing
process. The wound remained open until about a month ago. It is now a long,
feather-shaped scar from my waist to just under my breasts and I use Vit. E
oil on it. There are no stitch marks since the stitches externally had to be
removed to treat the wound, which, btw, stretched 9-1/2″ long, 5-1/2″ wide and
was so deep you could put a fist into it (which RNs and my wound care doc did
on a regular basis). Reiki and protein intake helped a LOT.

Doctor Information - Paul Witman in Ft. Lauderdale?

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

I am in Fort Lauderdale and am in the process of getting a consult
with Dr. Paul Wizman.
Has anyone out there used him for their Lap-RNY?
Please, any information you have would be great. I have checked the
different associations and such, but wonder what everyone else has
heard and/or experienced.
Thanks.
You can email me privately as well.

STILL waiting for approval from UHC

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Well group, I’m STILL waiting for approval from UHC. My policy is
thru my husbands employer. The surgery IS a covered benefit. Back in
April of this year all my info was sent in. It took almost a month
for UHC to tell me that they could not approve the surgery without the
surgeons notes. So I hurried to get an appt. with my surgeon.
Everything, including his notes, were re-submitted. That was June 2.
As of this morning when I called, it is still in review. REVIEW???
STILL??? This is so nerve wreaking! I actually had a rep. ask me,
yesterday, if I already called that morning. It seems they DO keep a
record of the times you call. I have encountered very nice reps, but
soon are so cold and not helpful. They are just in a hurry to get to
the next call. I do have the extention number for one really nice and
very helpful rep named Jerri. So at times I just call her. My health
is getting worse by the day. I not only have high bp, but I’m a
diabetic and am suffering from Neuropathy in my feet. My blood sugar
