Hi Friends:
First off…..I AM NOT flaming nor cross talking and my intent is
definitely NOT inflammatory. Just the same, after reading about veggies being
carbs (some, like spuds, corn, peas I totally understand) I find myself
straddling a fence between chuckling and guilty self recrimination over having
diced up
some onion and green pepper with the turkey sausage that I had for dinner
last night. The other day at an OA support group I listened to a few rotund
fellow food addicts talk about binging on broccoli. I found myself wondering
just
how many of us plateaued because we had one too many carrots or overdid the
cauliflower!! For the past week I have done an about turn in my eating and
have (or at least I thought) removed major carbohydrates and definitely sugars
(I
must admit to some fruit) from my week’s worth of meals. How can this be
bad……….and at 5 years out, how do you not have some semblance of a
balanced
meal plan? YES….I definitely want to remove the weight I put on in the
past 6 - 8 months Annnd……I do not believe in the slightest that one ounce of
it came on as a result of tomatoes and onions…..unless they were some of the
toppings on pizzas that I ordered. Again, I am not trying to be
sarcastic…….but I am trying to be diligent and I get a little crazy going
from posts
giving out recipes for “sugar free” (that’s a laff) peanut butter pies to
warnings over the carbohydrate perils of and onion.
Maybe…since I have been through many treatment centers for overeating prior
to getting sliced, I take this knowledge for granted. Still….my best
thinking got me to 600 pounds……and contributed to gaining back 30 after
losing
and maintaining the loss for the past few years.
I do not know where I am going with this other than not wanting my
critical food guilt ridden self to feel like I am cheating because I had a salad
with chicken for lunch. Of course….I have to watch the dressing…..that is
unless I am an Atkinian.
Oh well….I guess time and the scale will tell. I simply want to
find some healthy form of moderation in my food life; actually, in my entire
life. BTW….onions and tomatoes included…..dropped 6 pounds this
week………YAY!!

I lost 12kg (over 24lb) following Atkins, over a 3 week period. I have
even managed to keep it off, however I simply couldn’t maintain the
Atkins way of life (I found myself developing a passionate aversion to
eggs and cheese after a few weeks;) If I ate meat I think it’d be a
dream way of eating!
For my part: I ate onions, tomatoes, carrots and other veges purported
to be high in carbs .. and the weight melted off me. So I wouldn’t warn
anyone off these foods, however for those who are counting carbs I do
suggest you look at the carb content of all foods as you’ll be surprised
sometimes by what you see!
I hope I’m allowed to post this on here - those who want to see what
carbs you’re consuming can go to www.atkinscenter.com and look up “carb
counter”, if I recall correctly, its on the lefthand side of the main
page.
