Antidepressants-sexual desire

This is a response I wrote to sunstar a few days ago regarding
antidepressanats. I thought if it might be of use to someone else it would
be worth sending. Jeanette
First off, you need to talk to your prescribing doctor about these feelings
and if he doesn’t change your medications, then I would probably see another
physician. This is only an opinion, but I do have some experience on
anti-depressant drugs, in fact I still take them. I am pre-op and my
prescribing physician is wanting to stay right on top of things in case
adjustments need to be made post-op.
I have had some experience with Effexor XR but I have not had any with
Celexa. The medications I now take are a combination of Wellbutrin SR
(which will be a problem post-op for a while) and Zoloft. I have taken
Paxil, but I did not have good results with it. Just by what my doctor has
told me Wellbutrin SR makes things seem sunny and brighter and are sometimes
an appetite suppressant (not for me though!!) Be assured though that there

are other drugs out there (some I probably have not even listed) that will
make you feel better.
It’s great that you have a new guy! Some anti-depressants have a tendency
to lower sex drive. I know Paxil is one that seems to especially in men.
My personal advice is to talk to your doctor, probably change medications
and then see how you feel. You may find then that when the passion arises
LOL that you may also be ready and willing. If it takes a while, don’t
worry it takes a while to get drugs out of your system and a while for new
ones to start working. Maybe during that period you and your guy could do a
lot of exploring and get to know each other really well. Probably then, the
passion will return.
Again I repeat that these are only my opinions, but I think any advice about
sex coming from a 55 year must have some credence. That and I have the most
understanding and thoughtful husband who I have been married to for 36 years
If you want to e-mail me privately that is fine.
