Obesity Surgery WP Blog

Hiya gang!
I have a friend of a friend, who lives in the Orlando area, who is now
thinking of WLS, she’s on Medicare and is having a hard time finding a surgeon
who
will accept that for surgery. Do any of you know any docs in florida who do
accept Medicare? Apparently she is willing to traverse the state if necessary.

Hi,
I am not sure what your name is, but I feel that WLS is a tool and you have to
be willing to work with it or you can damage your self, for example get sick.
After having this surgery almost 2 weeks ago, my whole attitude has changed, I
care about what goes into my new stomach. Like I explained to my family before
the surgery I could not see the outcome of what I was doing to my self by over
eating and binging. After having this surgery I am more aware what the outcome
might be, I know if I dont follow the rules about WLS, I could hurt my self,
by stretching out my new stomach, I dont want that to happen so that is the
first thing I think about when I look at food or smell it. WLS is not for
everyone and you really have to be willing to change your life and the way
food fits in it after surgery. You have to be read mentally and physically and
you have to do it for the right reasons and only you know what those reasons
are. I want to wish you luck on your WLS journey and Good Luck, even though it
has only been a week and a half I am sure feeling great about my decision.

Hello, my name is Lynn and I am 3 months post op from Lap RNY. I have
had pretty good luck until today. I have not been able to stop
vomiting all day. I ate a turkey sandwich last night and vomited just
a little. I though I had just eaten too much. This morning I got up
and did my usual routine. I took my vitamins etc and then made my
oatmeal with non fat enriched milk. I could only take about two bites
and then I felt really full. I stopped. I had 1/4 cup of coffee an
hour later. I went to work and about 10:00 am started drinking my
usual protein shake which I make out of non fat yogurt, non fat
enriched milk strawberries and protein powder. I could only take
about 2 sips before I started feeling sick. I stopped. About 15
minutes later I started throwing up. That was almost 3 hours ago and
I keep throwing up every 15 minutes or so. I’m just wondering what
the heck is going on. I’ve heard of strictures. Could it be from last
nights dinner? Or maybe it was the calcium citrate capsule I took at

Well group…Remember me telling you that my surgery was scheduled
for 7/29/3 but had to be rescheduled to 8/5/3 because my surgeon is
ill? Well I just received a phone call from his office saying that
he is in the hospital and my date will have to be rescheduled to
8/12/3!! You know, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. This is
soooo typical for my life! If crap can happen to me, it ususally
does! I had just turned in all my leave slips to my boss, and so did
my husband. So it looks like we’ll be doing it again for the 3rd
time!!!
I’m also worried about my insurance company. The approval letter is
only good for 90 days. I was approved on 6/16/3. I really don’t
want to have to re-do that whole “getting approved” again. *sigh*
I’m trying not to be upset. I know people get sick. I’m very sorry
he’s ill, it’s just very disappointing and very hard to keep an
upbeat outlook.

Sorry to do this but here’s an addition to my original email / question:
Having spent the entire morning peering at my incision, I think the
nurse was wrong in her diagnosis, I think it may have become / been
infected. The tissue around the incision is a squishy pinky brown,
rather than angry red. The other incisions (problem free, this far) are
all dry and healing to a pinkish / white colour.
So now my question is: does this bleeding mean the infection will be
coming out. (Have never had an infected *anything* before! Sheesh) But
the way I see it, (newbie infection 101) if the infection were that bad,
I’d be feeling bloody awful, I’d have a temperature, yadda yadda .. I
don’t, I feel just fine. So should I let it bleed / seep (its slowly
seeping rather than gushing, as it originally did when I touched it) and
just monitor it for abit .. ?

I have had a relapse of a back problem this evening that I had pre-surgery,
which was five weeks ago. I know I will not sleep unless I take one of my
muscle relaxers (meaning I will be standing all night) but am not sure if it is
safe…..I have put a call into the Dr. but with the answering service, I do
not know if I will get a call back tonight……..I can call in the morning too,
but want to sleep……

I finally got below 200 pounds!! today I am 198.5- a total of 171.5 pounds off
in 14 months. I am so happy- I haven’t been less than 200 in over 24 years!! My
size 18’s are getting lose and I can fasten the 16’s I have put away. Hopefully
in another month, I’ll be wearing them comfortably! Yippee!!!
