I agree. The tone of this board can sometimes be harsh and belittling. We
all have different surgeons with different ideas of how to eat/recover from
this surgery. Quoting carbs, glycemic indices, calories and the like really
irritated me!
I am 2 weeks out from a LAP RNY done in Norman, OK. My surgeon works with
another surgeon doing these surgeries and they both have different pre and post
op diet plans for their patients! Does this make them bad? No, it just shows
us that different physicians have different ideas and suggestions about how
to help our bodies recover and lose weight. Fortunately, for the small amount
we are able to eat initially I have NO WORRIES right now about carbs and the
like. We need to be here to HELP, not HINDER those who have problems with
their diet. Belittling them does not endear them to us, nor will it make them
want to ask for help. Don’t make these new people obcess about carbs, the first
month out. Be GENTLE! Suggest to them that perhaps Pot Roast isn’t the the
best food to eat and provide them with alternatives like protein drinks and

where to get them. ASK them if they would like a copy of your post op diet.
Criticism like this is demeaning and unncessary.
