blunt talking

Friday, May 26th, 2006

My writing is who I am… loud, colorful, explored, and joy-filled. Sorry
it isn’t as gentle as you would like to see it. I get enough feedback
*daily* that my “bluntness”… my “telling-it-like-it-is”-style… is what
is often missing from their research. I just ain’t gonna quit because it
might scare a couple of newbies into actually finding out The Truth!
You said it Barbara!!!! Just as the surgery isn’t always easy and we can’t
sugar coat it for the newbies and pre-ops, I also say what I think. If my
opinions are too harsh, maybe one of us needs to find a new site. I don’t post
often but when I do it is because I have something to say and I am sorry if I
feel that someone who has had a negative relative terrify them and give them the
cold shoulder should be held resonsible for it and be made to realize that they
caused sufering. Did I say no to ever forgive them or to harp on it for life
NO!!! I just think they should be made aware that their actions hurt.
Furthermore…for anyone to have anything to say to Barbara who gives so much of
herself and shares so unselfishly is ridiculous.

losing Freinds

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

I have been sitting here thinking about how to respond to this post.
So many thoughts were going through my mind. The reason being is I had
a best friend I lost also. But not due to surgery. She cheated with my
now ex husband. We were next door neighbors to boot. I can understand
this post for many reasons. First because it’s a loss of someone close
to you . Second, because there seems to many unanswered questions as
to why. Third, “the best friend” isn’t willing to work towards
restoring the friendship. For me, I felt betrayed, abandoned, confused
and on top of all that I missed her. The only advice I have after
three years past is this.. They may have been your best friend then
but they arent anymore. They have their reasons as to why and you may
never know them. We can’t make ANYONE come back into our lives no
matter how close we were to them at one time. Some things you can do
are.. let them know how you feel, get it all out whether in person or
on paper then move on, be thankful for the memories and appreciate the

I agree. The tone of this board can sometimes be harsh and belittling. We
all have different surgeons with different ideas of how to eat/recover from
this surgery. Quoting carbs, glycemic indices, calories and the like really
irritated me!
I am 2 weeks out from a LAP RNY done in Norman, OK. My surgeon works with
another surgeon doing these surgeries and they both have different pre and post
op diet plans for their patients! Does this make them bad? No, it just shows
us that different physicians have different ideas and suggestions about how
to help our bodies recover and lose weight. Fortunately, for the small amount
we are able to eat initially I have NO WORRIES right now about carbs and the
like. We need to be here to HELP, not HINDER those who have problems with
their diet. Belittling them does not endear them to us, nor will it make them
want to ask for help. Don’t make these new people obcess about carbs, the first
month out. Be GENTLE! Suggest to them that perhaps Pot Roast isn’t the the
best food to eat and provide them with alternatives like protein drinks and

Plastic surgery post weight loss

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

I saw an advert this afternoon for a program on plastic surgery to
air on the Discover Health Channel Monday at 9 p.m. (That’s eastern
time in the US; I don’t know about the channel’s availability in
other parts of the world.)
One of the case studies to be followed is a woman who lost 180 lbs.
The advert didn’t say she lost it after wls, but in any event, it’s
precisely the same problem many of us face at some point.

Not for the faint of heart

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Hello Everyone!
I am pretty new to the group. I haven’t posted before, I pretty much read and
soak everything in. The support and information from this group is just amazing.
I am really glad that I have found you. I have been researching surgery for
awhile now and I am going to a doctors informational seminar this week. It is
the first step in the process.
This is the reason for this post. I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). It is
mostly stress related. Will this effect my chances of having the surgery? I
would like to have a lap Rny. I haven’t found anything about it in my research
so I am coming to the most informed folks. I really appreciate any information
that anyone has.
Thanks for your help!

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Hello everyone, i just had one question that hopefully i can get some advice on.
I have had a best freind for over four years. we have been through everything
together. There has never been anything that we could not talk about or handle
together. However, since i have recently lost 105lbs she has been increasingly
acting distant toward me. She has told me that she has things in her life that
she has to deal with and that she does not have time to be a friend to me. This
really throghs me for a loop. i just can not understand why she would do this. i
am tring to understand what she is saying but i just cant right now. my life is
going so well right now. all except for this. i really do not want to loss my
friend. please help! any advice will he very appreciated.
thank you

of August!!! I still have another 109 lbs to go until I reach my goal, but at
this rate I KNOW I can do it Ü
Just wanted to share my excitement!!! My doctor was grinning ear to ear

hungry a lot

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

I’m six weeks post-op, can eat most foods though red meat still
causes some trouble. I eat three meals and two snacks a day, usually
get my fluids in, focus on proteins, etc., but I’m hungry, usually
several times a day, sometimes the hunger is very strong. Today I
had a protein shake for breakfast at 9, was very hungry at noon and
had 3 oz of chicken salad, half a slice of whole wheat bread and a
nectarine at 12:30, had a protein bar at 3:30, had 3-4 oz chicken for
dinner and shared some cheese balls around 8:30. Here it is 10 pm
and I am HUNGRY! Any ideas? Laura

Anyone in the 60 year old age group?

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

I am scheduled to meet with my surgeon Sept. 11th at Mayo Clinic to
set my surgery date. I am new to the OSSG group and have been
reading all the postings with great interest. I am curious if any of
you who have had the open surgery are in my age group? I also am
curious to know if any of you have had the surgery at Mayo in
Rochester?
