Am I full yet?

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Hi all!
I was wondering if someone could answer a question.
I had surgery on 8/12/3. Right now i’m on pureed foods. I can’t tell
when i’m full. Will it be easier to tell when i’m full when i start
solid foods?
Thanks
Brenda

feeling kind of down

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

I was so positive that my insurance would approve, but they were
missing proof that I had been on a medically supervised weight loss
program. Gee…I’m 260…think I just put my head in the fridge
last week and sucked it all up and then decided to have surgery to
get rid of it! Sorry, I’m sad right now.
I have heart arythmias to the point that I am really limited on
activity. My heart doctor is going to write a letter telling them
that we HAVE exhausted all other avenues, and he feels that this
will take care of it.
But for the first time, I’m scared. I had already planned to have
my surgery this October/November at OHSU (Oregon) and when I spoke
with the surgery scheduler, she said this would put it off until
next year, probably. Because insurance won’t be done with the
review for 30 days from receipt of the letter, that puts it into
October.

Could Really Use Some Support

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Hi Guys.
I haven’t spent enough time with you all on this site and hope to
change that. I’m sorry. Right now I’m feeling really worried. For
the past month I’ve been extremely constipated and have had five
different episodes of a horrendous pain just under my sternum. It
took the entire month to get in to see my gastrointerologist. He’s
pretty sure that it is a gall-stone. He said that this is an easy
surgery for people with “normal” stomach/intestine set ups, but that
this will be a very difficult surgery because of the “Y” part of the
Roux-en- y. My original surgery was done lap, but this will have to
be done open.
I’m scared beyond words. I could really use any encouragement you
might have to give. Have any of you had surgery after your original
surgery? How have you healed?
Take care and good luck to all of you who are getting ready for

Now on the LOSING side!!!

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Well, had my Lap RNY on Thursday and fortunately, the recovery
process is going very well. By day three (today) I am practically
doing laps around the hospital floor and overall feel ok. I still
have the IV and drain tubes in my but I’m told tomorrow I will have
both taken out and then I’m on my way home.
I must say, the first two days after surgery were very unforgettable!
But thank God they’re over.

Hi Folks,
I feel like I know so many of you, that I guess it’s time to introduce myself.
My name is Iris. I am 42 years old. I have been a “Lurker” for the last couple
of years. I have learned sooo much from this list. I want to say a great BIG
thank you to everyone for their openness and honesty when posting. I think I
have asked a couple of questions and got good responces. Well, I have been
working with my Insurance co. and surgeons office since Jan. I now have my
surgical date. 9-10-03. I am so very excited! If I could dance I would be doing
the happy dance.

squicky question re: diarhea/loose stools

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

OK, just a quick question… since my surgery on 4/29/03, the BMs I have had
have all been either diahrea or very soft, formed looser stools… not one
regular stool like I used to have pre-op. I am not complaining, mind you, this
seems to be something that I am handling ok. I also had heard shortly post op
that it was going to be a case of “liquid in-liquid out”, so was not surprised
at the looseness of them.
However, in the past couple of weeks, my stools have now also included what
reminds me of an oily or greasy material… it looks like someone would have
just splattered the toilet bowl with several drops of cooking oil or something,
yanno? I have not drastically increased the amounts of fat to my diet, so not
sure what is causing this.
It reminds me of several years ago when they introduced that new kind of oil,
that was supposed to travel right on through your system. companies fried
their potato chips in it, and it wasn’t supposed to be as bad for you. The only
downside listed though was that you ran the chance of having oily, greasy

“falling off the wagon”

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Hey everyone,
I’m in need of advice or something. I am almost 6 months out
now and down about 81-85lbs.(varies) I was on a plateau a couple of
weeks ago so I increased my excercise, water intake and protein, and
also began paying closer attention to my carb intake as well. It got
the scale moving again thankfully and I lost 8lbs in 2 weeks. The
thing is, the other night after our support meeting, for some stange
reason I “fell off the wagon” and I had a binge. I ate about 20 fries
and almost 1/2 of a whopper w/cheese. I also ate it pretty fast but
did not get sick. I felt awful about eating it and tried to make
myself throw it up but could not even make myself sick. Ever since
then (this was Tuesday) I have had these cravings for carbs and feel
like I have lost control. Has anyone else ever experienced anything
like this? I’m so upset about it. I have been doing so well and now I
am afraid this be a cycle. If anyone has suggestions please email me

After surgery Insurance Help Needed

Monday, June 26th, 2006

Hi everyone,
I had my surgery in Oct. of 2001. At that time I was on my COBRA plan
through my former position at the University of Iowa. After my COBRA
was expired I applied for a family policy with Blue Cross Blue Shield
and was denied because of my surgery. I am now on Secure Blue Select
and am paying $414/mo. just for me! Needless to say, we’re paying about
$800 a month for the whole family. I’m told I will probably never be
able to get a “good” covering and less expensive policy because of this
surgery, plus of my history with colon polyps. PLUS, I couldn’t apply
for dental insurance through them because of the health insurance plan
I’m on. I could get an individual plan which would run PER MONTH
approx. $35 for cleanings only, $55 for cleanings and fillings or $78
for cleanings, fillings, and the rest - root canals, caps, etc.
Have any of you experienced not being able to get good coverage after
surgery? If so, have you found any companies that will take care of you
