Kidney stones anybody??

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Holy crow!! Kidney stones???!! I don’t use tums much anymore, I’ve
been using Viactive… is this calcium carbonate? Nobody mentioned
anything at my doc’s office about kidney stones! But it does make
sense, I had heard in the past that too much calcium can “calcify”
(if that’s a real word) your kidneys.
Is there any type of chewable (or very small) calcium citrate pills
on the market? I’m also concerned about the opening out of my
stomach and not getting anything stuck.. :) Kay

Kidney stones anybody ??

Monday, July 31st, 2006

6 months ago, I had my open RNY. 2 months ago, I passed, (thank GOD !) the
first kidney stone I’ve ever had. ( Ouch ! That sucker had CLAWS on it !) Now,
I think I’ve got another one trying to pass. ( Yes, dr. appointment made…) Is
there something about the altering affects of the RNY that makes us more prone
to K. stones, or what ? And is there anything we can do to avoid them ?

Tummy tuck/leg tuck/everything tuck :)

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Annette,
I have the same problem with those big ropey veins showing up. I’m being
evaluated right now to see if I’m a candidate for something called EVLT. A
radiologist threads a catheter into the faulty vein and then uses a laser to
seal the vein. Discomfort is suppose to be minimal and there are no
restrictions after the procedure. There is a website that will tell you all
about it: www.evlt.com. Unfortunately a thigh lift will not get rid of the
varicose veins. My insurance will pay for the laser procedure.

and now have the dreaded extra skin. :) I developed a hernia so my
insurance will cover that and I can have the tummy tuck but I also need my
legs done. I have HUGE veins that showed up under all the fat so I’m
wondering if anyone has had the leg tuck (?) done because of that?? If
not…has anyone paid to have it done and if so…what was the approximate

loss of food as comfort

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

I was banded in 1995, and just this summer had a revision to rny. So I’ve had
lots of years to deal with this issue.
YES! It is NORMAL to feel as if you have lost your best friend. For many of
us, food has been there no matter what! We HAVE lost our best friend!
I was diagnosed with Diabetes about 1-1/2 years before my banding. Prior to
that, I used to eat myself literally into a coma. Then I would sleep it off,
wake up, and sedate myself with food again!
When I was first banded, I was not able to get that feeling of “fullness”
that allowed me to go to sleep more easily. Napping was not as easy. I guess my
body was telling me to “Get up and MOVE!”
Many of us stuff our feelings down with food. Without food to use as a
buffer, we feel these feelings more intensely. Also, I have heard it said that
hormones that are fat soluable get released as we lose the fat, and this can
cause
these “blue” feelings.”
