about those knees
my story is that i had severe knee damage and after my wls and at about 100 lbs
down i had both my knees replaced one at a time six weeks apart. the day after
the staples came out, 3 weeks each i was back in the pool carefully doing
arthritis water aerobics. this form of rehab was so sucessful that i got no
formal rehab at all except for 2 visits by a home rehab person to check to see
if i was doing my exercises correctly. the third time she came i drove her out
for coffee. the next knee there were no visits. nothing felt better in my life
as my knees the days after surgery when it became apparent that they hurt far
less than they did before surgery. having said that it took approximately 2 mos
for my knees to settle in pain free and i had full mobility because of all the
exercise, as in daily, all that exercise was what i was already doing to lose
all my weight so it was not additional. for me it has been a win win situation.
6 mos after the surgeries i went skiing, granted on the bunny slope but it was a
major thrill. so fear not..even if those knees really need replacement and you
will know after the first year of losing weight it is doable. like everything
else it depends on hard you are willing to work at it. i had so hoped that
losing the weight would solve the problem (i had broken both knees as a child so
duh, what did i expect) but i would not give up these titanium babies for
anything now.
