Manicures and Pedicures and surgery
Hi,
A friend just mentioned to me that I might not be able to have nail
polish on for the surgery? I have gels nails, which is a coating
made for cancer patients from seaweed that is a clear coating with
nail polish under that to make a french manicure.
I was planning on having my manicure and pedicure the Saturday
before the surgery as I won’t be doing it the Saturday after…
Thank you!

I have acrylics on my nails. I had them taken off before my surgery and had
a new set put on just before I went back to work. I would recommend natural
nails for the surgery.

That sensor cannot always do a reading through acrylic/gel/silkwrapped nails.
That’s why I had my acrylic removed. I had problems post-op getting a reading
at the doctor’s office — they had to use my toe.

When I went in for gall bladder removal, the woman who did the pre-admin
registration said no polish, but in the OR, the nurse said it wasn’t
necessary any more because of the pulse-ox they use and if they did need
to check manually, they’d just use my toenail, so I’m getting my nails
done the night before, as I’ve worn acrylics for 4 years.

I had lap RNY in September and didn’t have to take off my acrylics.

When I had LAP RNY in April, my toenails were polished, and no one removed
it…….
