surgery preparation
I was wondering what one does to prepare for surgery? Do we all do the
same? Like NPO after when? Or do we have to cleanse like when having a
colonoscopy?
Another question. Please forgive my bluntness and apologies if my question
bothers any one, but what are our BM’s like after? Soft, hard, smelly? I
just need to know what the average is just in case I’m not. Thanks in
advance.

If olive oil is made from olives, what is baby oil made from?

Different surgeons have different preop preps. Some do require the
go-lytle prep like for a colonoscopy.
Mine required 2 ounces of MOM the afternoon before, clear liquids the
day before, NPO after midnight the day of surgery.
BMs vary by individual. Mine are now fairly normal (I’m 11 months
post-op). I had a lot of problems with constipation early on -
probably from the iron supplements.
Good luck

Thanks Pam and everyone who answered me. I know I have a lot to learn and
everyone here is helping me so much. I’m starting to get a little nervous.
But mostly it’s leaving my job. I’m more concerned at the mess that may be
waiting when I get back than the surgery. Go figure. I’ve got a 2 temps
covering for me, each on a different aspect of my work, and they’re
trained about as well as they can be, but I’m still concerned. I guess I’m
just a work-aholic.
I was sitting at the table last night with my husband, and looked down at
my plate. We had just about finished dinner, and I had about 4 oz left on
my plate. It hit me that this was just about the amount I would be eating
for a complete meal, as far as size went. Wow. I usually stay away from
the bad stuff on my own, but have always eaten too large of amounts. I’m
not a snacker or a picker, but a large meal eater. It just seems so hard
to believe I will eat that small of amount and be full. I’ve been
‘practicing’ chewing all this week, nice and slow with no drinks per meal.
That’s the hard part, as I love water and go through at least half a
gallon a day. More, when it’s hot, and quite a bit during supper, too.
More changes. It’s hard eating meat without a drink. Maybe I could mix it
with something when it’s dry, like cottage cheese or something? I guess
it’s pretty much trial and error.
I am trying my first protein shake right now. Nectar Carribean Cooler. Not
too bad. Can you mix them with milk instead of water?
