Thanks! What I’m eating…
Hi,
I have talked to the nutritionist and she told me to keep trying
the food even if I don’t eat that much. As for the foods I have been
eating mainly pudding, yogurt, soup, protein shakes and small amounts
of protein bars. My guidelines say i should be eating pureed meats
but I have tried chicken, fish, canned chicken, tuna, lean ground
beef, and even lean steak but everything is too heavy and seems to
get stuck in my chest and causes severe pain. I cant seem to get in
food and all my liquids in one day should I focus on liquid first
then food or vice versa?
here is what I had yesterday:
breakfast
2 oz straw/banana yogurt
about 2 hrs later
aprox 1-2 oz oatmeal
snack
1/2 cup orange juice
lunch
1 oz ground beef lean
about 1 tbsp mashed pot
blended with about 2 tbsp gravy
ate about 4 bites
snack
sf choco pudding 1/2 cup
dinner
choco protein shake
20 gms whey protein
made with 1% milk
bed
1/2 cup pear juice
also drank about 8 oz water throughout day.

How far out are you? Since you are still on purees, I would think not that
far. Your menu reads like mostly carbs. How about adding another protein
shake AND MAKE THEM WITH WATER! Or how about eggs . . . cottage cheese or
ricotta. The meats I tried early on and they settled really well were
meatloaf and meatballs and believe it or not a nice tender piece of steak.
I did find that I did MUCH better eating my meat cold though. Chilie was
another good choice for me.
I stayed away from anything that was like dessert . . . SF puddings, jello
etc. Did not want to get into that habit. Plus the milk in the puddings .
. . again not a great choice.
Also, that stuck feeling can be from not chewing thoroughly enough or taking
too large a bite.
The liquid intake will build up as you heal. Initially, I was lucky to get
16 oz in one day but that quickly grew as I was able and more comfortable to
sip faster.

Another thing you can do is add egg beaters to your protein drinks for added
protein
