weighing/measuring food

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

My surgeons nurse, who is a 6 year post op herself, said that we
should measure our food by volume not weight. Because all foods have
different density. And she said that we should be eating 4 oz at a
time. Anyone agree/disagree with this. I am interested in the
different opinions and views on this subject.

Hi all,
Does any one have an idea where I can buy a food scale? I called Wal-mart,
but they said they don’t carry them. Thanks in advance.

From Cold to Colder…

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I just wanted you to know I was always cold but after surgery, it got worse.
How I managed to spend 18 years in New York, I’ll never know.
My husband likes to keep the temperature at about 72 to 74 degrees here, I
swear! A few years ago I bought an electric blanket for me. I noticed someone
else suggested a blanket with dual controls, which was good if your husband
wants the blanket at all. Mine doesn’t. We have a King bed and my blankie is
Full, therefore, it’s only on my side of the bed. We have a King comforter
covering both of us.
I am all for keeping peace and staying warm! I also wear booties or socks just
about all the time because if my feet are cold, I’m not a happy girl.
Cheers,
Cindy Sunshine

dr checkup

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Hi all,
Had my first checkup with my surgeon today. He took out my stitches and
drains. The stitch removal was a snap, but, omg, the drains. That was the
strangest sensation I have ever had. It hurt and felt strange all at once.
I explained about the full feeling I had drinking so much and he said with
all I was taking in, I didn’t need to drink that much water. However, now he
put me on mushies, as he called them and I enjoyed 3/4 of a soft scrambled
egg. So I have to increase the water, and don’t have to drink as much clear
liquids. And tomorrow, I can test a small single cup of coffee with some
skimmed milk.
He told me, when I asked, he bypassed about 150cm of bowel, and my pouch is
about 60cc, maybe a little smaller. So it seems to me, from what I’ve read
here, that that is a little tummy and a lot of bowel bypassed. So, using the
tools he gave me, I now have the possibility of getting below 190lbs when I
am done loosing, something I didn’t see in my future before.

when sh*t doesn’t happen!

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Hey Guys,
If it seems I fell off the face of the earth for a
while, I sort of did.
I was up at hunting camp with my band of merry buddies
when just after lunch I started to feel a little
queesy. No biggie. I ate too much or ate too fast or
that trail mix just didn’t agree with me. As the
afternoon wore on the queeziness deteriorated to
constant nausea & several episodes of vomiting. In a
rare display of good judgement I packed up & headed
home.
By the time evening rolled around I was rolling around
the floor with belly pain & couldn’t even keep a sip
of water down. E.R. time!
They did an endoscopy the next day & found an ulcer.

Trying to get the surgery

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Hi I am really new to this group….just joined today actually. I
have been trying to get this surgery for well over a year now and I
am only now finally starting to get somewhere with my insurance. I
have done every test imaginable except my sleep apnea test which I
will do this week. But geeeezzz it is just feeling like my time will
never come. Everytime I go see the surgeon he tells meeh more and
more things that I need to do. So I do it and hope for the best next
time I see him. I can tell you I am so anxious and really just want
like to move on and get this part of my life going. I know a lot of
you have probably felt that way. Tell meeh how did you guys deal
with the waiting? I need some advice…..I see the surgeon again Jan
16th and then hopefully he will submit for surgery approval. How did
you past the time, and what helped you to have a positive attitude?
Thanks for all you help

Water….Nona

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Try to get as much water in as possible, as close to or above 64 oz a day. I
have been in the ER twice for dehydration, not fun at all.
One thing that has made a HUGE difference in how much water I can drink is
temperature. Cold water from the fridge is much harder for me than room temp
water.
I don’t refrigerate my bottles, I keep them on the kitchen floor and drink them
like that. It took me a day to get used to it, but now I can drink 80+ oz a day
with no problem.
Give it a shot!

Some one mentioned having disrupted staples…could I get some feed
back on the symptoms please. I would also like to let others know
that I had a receipe that I shared with 1/4 cup fructose, when I ate
one full piece of it (pie) I got very sick.. a couple of small bites
were ok… Some one told me after that Fructose is very close to
sugar… I found out the hard way.. Annette…
