Positive changes post bypass surgery
Positive changes after weight loss surgery. Do you have more to add?
The seatbelt buckle no longer painfully jabs into my buttocks/hip.
I no longer have to hold my arms uncomfortably across my chest
during a plane flight or feel embarassed sitting next to
someone on a plane or theater from my body partially
occupying their seat space.
I no longer have “bowel” or “bladder” accidents which were a
common occurance pre-op.
No more “depends” for me…. and my underware no longer smells of
urine from leaks with every cough or laugh. Personal hygiene is
a breeze now along with tying my shoes.
My calves & feet no longer throb after being on them all day.
No more inner thigh rashes or split seams on pants between my
thighs.
I own long sleeves & a jacket!!!!! I’m not “hot” all the time
anymore.
I can walk & talk at the same time without gasping for breath.
My face no longer looks red, and I have “eyes” now instead of tiny
eye slits surrounded by fat. My face has a contour instead of
being round & puffy.
I can tuck in my blouse and look good.
I no longer waste money buying “junk food” or eating all of my
meals out.
I have more self respect & confidence. I like who I see looking
back at me in the mirror.
I’m not as overly sensitive or as defensive as I use to be. I
nolonger have that “victim” mentality and “oh, woe is poor me”
feelings.
I can no longer blame any relationship/ communication problems that
I have on “it’s because of my weight”. I have to take
responsibility for my own actions or “lack of”…..NO MORE EXCUSES
or self pity because of feeling prejudiced against due to my
obesity. This realization has been emotionally painful. Growing up
is hard to do (even at 48yrs. old. LOL). I feel like I’m starting
to let go of my prior “fat person” oversensitiveness, people
pleasing, victim mentality that was such a core part of me. I’m a
bit more assertive now that I feel better about myself.
More from another WLS friend:
My husband can wrap his arms all the way around me.
I can hold a child on my lap.
I can put the car seat far enough forward to reach the pedal.
I fit in the stupid little paper gown at the doc’s.
I can bend over and pick up things I drop on the floor.
I can run if I’m in a big hurry.
I can be on top without causing bodily injury!
And more from yet another WLS friend:
I can wear a seat belt comfortably
I can walk up stairs without being winded
I can ride on roller coasters without worrying that the harness
won’t go around me.
I can fly on an airplane without a seat belt extension
I can look in the mirror and actually like what looks back
I can tuck my shirts into my pants without my belly covering my belt
buckle.
I can walk out in public and look people in the eye
I can fit in a movie theater chair
My feet get wet in the shower WITHOUT wading in it.
I can SEE my feet
I can tie my shoes without having to hold my breath
I can put my socks on without having to lay down, same with pants.
I can shop in any store and find clothes that fit…. off the rack.
I don’t have to take medication for diabetes anymore
I use my asthma rescue inhalor less
And Lastly, with a bit of humor and no more embarrassment:
1) Sit in chairs without breaking them.
2) Sit on toilet seats without breaking them.
3) This is the best one: I CAN WIPE MY ASS!!!!!
4) I can reach around in the shower and WASH my ass!
5) I can get ON TOP and don’t have to rock on my belly.
Would you like to add to our list? ADD ON…..

How about sitting in a room and being comfortable at 70 degrees?

That’s a good one. Here’s another. Being able to walk by passengers in a
bus and not bumping your butt or tummy into anyone, having to constantly say
‘excuse me’ or ‘pardon me’.
