back after a long time
Hello everyone,
I want to wish Steve good health after his ordeal…I had my surgery
9/00 and I posted for about a year on and off afterwards. I kept
reading the posts, but now I am back.
My wls was very successful for me personally. I went from 255 to 135
and I have kept the weight off. I lost the majority of my weight in the
first 8-10 months like a majority of people.
I did fairly well with vitamins, etc., but lately I was feeling really
sluggish and I knew immediately I needed to have blood work done. In
fact, I am severally anemic with a very low red blood cell count..I
could have guessed that. I am one of those post-ops that can’t tolerate
sugar in any form or fats without dumping. (even sugar alcohol in sugar
free stuff makes me sick). My doc told me that even though I eat in a
healthy way I am not getting enough protein and iron enriched
foods….for example, too many vegetables. I have never had a doctor
tell me that I eat too many vegetables. In addition, I have been
walking around in a dehydrated state. They want me to drink 120 ounces
of fluid a day with 80 ounces being water. I am writing this for
newbies on the list–that even us oldies need to take care of ourselves
because it’s a life long commitment. Now, I am keeping a food journal
once again and I have enough protein generally speaking so the doc said
it’s probably just a side effect of surgery and I’ll need to take even
more iron supplements than normal. I used to take one and now I take 3
daily plus 1000 mg B12, 5 calcium tablets and a multivitamin.
The nurse said something very poignant…you did all of this to be
healthier so don’t ruin it by not taking all your supplements and water
daily. We want to be healthy on the inside and outside. I totally
agree.
Good luck everyone…I will be reading again and refocusing on my wls.
So if anyone has any questions just ask.
Julie
