‘Outeating’ Weight-Loss Surgery: High-Calorie Grazing Negates Result
Tuesday, December 26th, 2006I agree with Barbara, I think many folks researching this surgery
aren’t aware of the possibility of failure and regain. I break out
in a cold sweat when I read articles like this one, but I do think
it was fair and accurate, if perhaps a bit incomplete. For some of
us it’s not only grazing of small amounts or high-calorie liquids
that can cause regain, it’s being able to eat larger amounts than
the average post-op patient. Results vary tremendously, and not
everyone can count on dumping or a teeny capacity, at least not
forever. The article is right on about many patients being “still
plagued by the same eating demons that caused them to gain weight in
the first place,” and I can count myself in that number. I think it
will be a lifelong struggle.
I don’t regret the surgery in the least, I’m far better off than pre-
op and I’d do it again if I had to. I’m 20 months out from surgery
and maintaining a BMI of about 26, although currently fighting a bit
