8 Month Anniversary

Today is April 21, 2004my eight month anniversary of having the
bariatric gastric bypass surgery (laparoscopic). It is a great day
and I thought I would share with you all the changes that have
occurred in my life in the past eight months.
First, let me start by saying that having this surgery was the
absolute best thing I could have done for my health. To date, all
the issues pre-surgery are gone. No more diabetes, no more high
blood pressure, no more sleep apnea, no more migraine headaches. It
is absolutely amazing to feel healthy. I haven’t felt this good
since I was in highschool. And even then I battled with self esteem
issues (as most highschool students do) and that surely wasn’t good
for my health, at least not my emotional health.
My total weight loss to date is about 87 pounds give or take a
few. I now weigh less than my husband woo hoo! A couple of weeks
ago I pulled on of his pair of jeans by accident and they fit me so

I thought they were mine. When I realized they were his I just about
cried! Aside from the obvious thrill of weighing less than I did in
highschool, I also am excited that I am into a size 14 in clothing.
Again, it all goes back to highschool as I haven’t been in a 14
since then; my freshman year to be exact.
I can definitely say that my self esteem has improved, although I
still see a “fat” girl in the mirror. Although I know I’m thinner
and I know my clothes size, I still feel like the fat girl I was for
32 years of my life. Since the weight loss happens so fast I’m just
guessing that it will take a little longer for my head to catch up
with my body. I’m sure many of you post-ops know what I’m talking
about.
Anyhow, thank you to everyone in this group. Although I’m just a
lurker for the most part, I log on a few times a week to read all
the posts and feel as if I know many of you. Thank you for your
words, your encouragement and for your experiences. I will continue
to be a part of this group and hope to someday be able to impart my
wisdom with people. For starters, for those of you who may doubt
this is the right thing for you, don’t doubt. It can change your
life. Do your research, ask tons of questions and take a deep
breath. It’s worth it!

Hi Patricia. I had my surgery around the same time and I am so happy for
your and so agree that this has changed my life! I fit into restaurant booths
and theater seats (and there is still space!) I can walk with others and not
have to pretend not to be exhausted and winded. I can tie my shoes with the
laces in the middle. I can put lotion on my feet. I can wipe my behind with
ease. I can do so much now! I am very very grateful. I still have more to
lose, but am really happy with my weight now as well. I still have plenty of
    fat,
but I look good in clothes, my face is so thin, and I feel healthy and
    energetic!
