Return to work

I am still in the “asking questions” phase and appreciate all the
guidance of those that have gone before. My BMI is about 40, I am 48
and considering lap RNY. I work in a doctor’s office, so I do not do
physicaly strenous work, mostly walking, sitting and standing. How
long can I expect to be off work? How long before you feel mostly
phycially recovered? I now it varies, but I would like to hear how it
was for some of you.

Heidi, I am new to this posting, but I have been reading for months. I had my
surgery on April 7 (Wednesday), released from the hospital and I was back at
work on April 12 (Monday), everyone has their own recovery period- I know that
some people take off the whole six weeks. It’s been 2 1/2 weeks and I feel
great, except for adjusting to the new diet schedule. Good Luck!Carrie

I also do office work, and when I had my surgery I was in an office
where I had worked for years–I had months and months of accumulated
    unused sick leave.
After my open RNY I took six or seven weeks off, but mostly because I
had the time available. If I had to, I think I could have gone back at
least part time after two or three weeks. The pain resolved pretty
quickly, but a sense of fatigue lingered for awhile, and that’s what
would have kept me from full-time work at the 2-3 week point. By six
weeks I was just milking the system, and my conscience (such as it is)
    wouldn’t let me continue!

I took off four, but could have gone back in three.
