Hunger and Irritability . . . RHG

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I had this problem pre-op, and still have it. Since I am extremely distal (60″
CC), and protein shakes are part of my program, I do 6/day. When I find myself
feeling nervous, irritable, or one of the family asks if I’ve eaten lately, I
immediately take a shake. Not only does this give me 30 grams of protein, but
my standard shake (Champion Nutrition’s Pure Whey Stack) has about 3-4 grams of
sugars. (Some fructose, and lactose.)
So it does what Barbara suggests, with *immediate* results. It’s immediately
absorbed. (Well, some of it is!)
You can get inexpensive samples of Stack, and other protein shakes/drinks at
VitaLady.com. I feel better, look better, and function better (both mentally,
and physically) when I do my shakes faithfully, and on schedule.

Almost at 5 months ……

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Hi Jillian,
I’m at the same time frame as you and have noticed the same things. My
weight is coming off very slowly, about half a pound a week, if that. I eat
more at a meal. I feel hunger, a growling in my pouch, that I didn’t have
before. But…the weight is still coming off. My clothes are getting looser.
I fit better. I look better, I feel better. These are the important things.
Use a tape measure for losses instead of a scale. Buy an outfit that you
absolutely love but is a size too small and watch yourself fit into it. It
is unreal. But you have to do what works for your body. What works for me,
may not for you. I have to stay away from all processed carbs or I gain.
Right away. But they may not do that to you. Just be sure to take your
vitamins and drink plenty of fluids and exercise, even if it is just walking

Return to work

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

I am still in the “asking questions” phase and appreciate all the
guidance of those that have gone before. My BMI is about 40, I am 48
and considering lap RNY. I work in a doctor’s office, so I do not do
physicaly strenous work, mostly walking, sitting and standing. How
long can I expect to be off work? How long before you feel mostly
phycially recovered? I now it varies, but I would like to hear how it
was for some of you.

gerd surgery before rny

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Hello,
I am going to have the rny surgery and was wondering if there was
anyone who had the reflux surgery (fundoplication) before (at least
a year or so) the rny and what was your outcome? Any complications?
I need to hear some positive thoughts. I am getting really nervous
about this.
Take care

surgery pain and meds

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

o.k. it was over 2 yrs ago but, what i do remember is that i had someone stay
one night with me at home after my open rny. i took liquid tylenol with codeine,
tylenol 3 if i remember correctly. i never finished the bottle. basically i
didn’t hurt much just was very very tired, not sleepy, just tired and laid low
for several days. at the end of the first week home i was bored. i stayed home
the full 6 weeks so i could do my freaking out about trying to eat when i wasn’t
hungry alone. i got a good rest and a grip on things and was able to go back to
teaching high school rested and at least functional. 6 months later i had both
my knees replaced 6 weeks apart. the first knee did not hurt, it was more an
absence of pain almost immediately. the pain meds where there and i took them, 1
full prescription that i took mostly at night to sleep. the second knee hurt
like an sob, for a week, they hit some nerves. somehow after doing so well with
the other surgeries, the pain actually surprised me so it got out of control
fast. when i caught up to it i stayed on the pain meds through 2 and a half
perscriptions until i was reasonably sure it was over, about 2 weeks. the next

wanting to be accountable

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Hello all!
I wanted to post what happened on Tuesday because I want to be accountable to
someone for my actions. I have good news and bad news.
the bad news is: I broke down and had mcDonald’s. I ate 4 bites of a mcChicken
sandwich, about 8 normal sized fries, and about 5 spoonfulls of a mcflurry (but
the mcflurry took about 10 to 15 minutes to eat that many spoonfulls). While I
didn’t feel great afterwards, i didn’t feel awful until we started driving and
the bumps just upset my stomach terribly.
The GOOD news is: Mc Donald’s DOES NOT have the hold over me like it used
to!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOO! I am soooooooo happy about that. the only thing i
wouldn’t mind trying is the cheeseburgers. the chicken was hard to eat because
if there wasn’t enough lettuce and mayo on it, i could taste the grease. and
the french fries taste sooooooooo gross when you have to chew them to mush
instead of a couple chews and swallow.
While I feel bad that i couldn’t resist temptation, I am happy to finally know

Anita . . .

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

This sounds like the pain I get when something is stuck . . . something big and
hard, like a pill, or meat. You may have a stricture, and you need to call your
doc, and talk to *him*, not the office girls.
But ouch! Feels like a heart attack, huh?

Happy Anniversary to me !

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Yesterday I marked the 3 month point since my LRNY surgery and what a
ride it has been. Luckily I have forgotten most of the discomfort (I
never had pain) but boy do I miss eating for stress!! I am having a
very difficult and trying time in my personal and financial life
right now and god wouldn’t I love to eat a box of Krispy Kremes. I
have to learn to deal with disaster and disappointment in a whole new
way. Another thing I have to deal with is menopause. I got of off
Premarin back in August of 2003 to reduce the risk of blood clots
after the surgery. Smart move I thought…ha, ha…. so now all I
have to worry about are hot flashes and mood swings…(swell). I look
great though
(down 60 pounds), my clothes are all hanging off me, my hair isn’t
falling out but …who cares when you are on fire. “Who’ed a thunk
it” now I will be skinny and maladjusted instead of fat and
maladjusted. Aint life grand?? ….just one laugh after another.

Donuts - Barbara

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Barbara, thank you so much for always telling it how it is. I really
appreciate your honesty and forthrightness in your posts. I have learned a lot
from
you, including the realities of being farther out. You are such an asset to
this group!
Thanks again,

remember me?

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Hi all. I was on the list years ago, as I had my surgery in 12/98. I only
remember one person from this list. Feral Mermaid, Barbara. My name is Margaret
from NJ. Any old timers still out there??
