weight loss and weight gain

it’s great to read all the different post about people losing weight
at different rates and that after a while some regain or stop losing.
i think people (ones who don’t have to lose weight and have this
surgery) think boy after you have wls you are going to lose so much
weight and keep it off for every that you start to feel down and bad
about yourself if you don’t live up to that.
i have been reading all the post and seeing how people lose at
different rates, BUT…..i’m 5 months out and down about 52lbs and my
doc is saying i’m losing slow.
am i losing it slower than i should be?
i see my clothes are hanging off of me, but i don’t really see any
different in my body when i look at myself. my parents are coming to
visit next month and they have not seen me yet since the surgery and
i’m think they are going to be like you don’t look like you lost any
weight (of course they would never say that, but).

i also know any weight loss is great, i would never have been able to
lose this much this fast with out wls. and i’m feeling like i have so
much more energy. working out 4 to 5 times a week and would have
never be able to do that before.
well thanks for all the great post i like reading how others are
doing and how great every one has done with the surgery.
thans for all the support

    Hi Carol,
Yeah, some doctors drive me CRAZY!!! My surgeon doesn’t believe in
plateaus, even though there’s one called hibernation which hits a
couple of months out. Excuse me doc, if it doesn’t exist, why does it
have a name?!? I got so disgusted I fired him! I get all my follow-up
through my PCP, who thinks I’m doing great.
I know a lot of people who don’t see any difference in their bodies
while they are losing weight. Did you take measurements? I bet those
are really falling! Weight (the numbers on the scale) don’t tell the
whole story. If you’re exercising, you might be losing pounds of fat
while gaining pounds of muscle. That means that the number on the
scale wouldn’t change, but the body is shrinking.
Keep doing what you should be doing. Take your vitamins. I personally
recommend drinking protein drinks, since I don’t believe we can ABSORB
enough protein from food. Drink your water. Keep exercising.

Hang in there, and don’t let the doctor get you down!

    Hi Carol,
First, congrats on your weight loss and your workout commitment. Good
    job on both!!
I too had trouble SEEING the weight coming off with my own eyes. The
only way I did and sometimes still do is by pictures. I forced
myself to do front and side pictures although my weight loss journey.
Boy am I glad I did. Even if you did not take any staged photos in
    the beginning, Do it now!!
Hang in there and take good care!
    Very best wishes,
