Linda, Barbara & regain

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Hello,
I’ve been on this list for nearly 5 years and seen a lot of discussions, but
I always feel I have little to contribute at this point in my journey. It’s
been 4 years this month since I underwent open RNY. I wasn’t in horrible health
at that point–blood pressure, joints starting to creak–but I was 43 and knew
the inevitable consequences of my morbid obesity, so I chose the best course
available to me. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
I lost about 105 pounds in the first 9 months and stopped abruptly. This made
me “normal” not skinny, but size 8 to 10 normal for the first time since I
was a teen. I dump on very little sugar, so my lifelong sweet-eating habits are
curbed, and I think that was really good news for me. The most regain I have
seen was ten pounds last year, but those came off over the summer and only
three reappeared. Mind you, I didn’t follow an eating plan to get those off, I
just lived my life and stayed conscious of my hunger. I eat often, small
amounts,

Got my consult appointment

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Hey all,
I got my consult appointment for July 13th..so excited. I went to
my seminar and thanks to this support group and other books I’ve
read I feel like a step ahead of the game. I knew everything they
were explaining, it was great. Even my surgeon was floored with
some of the questions I had. Thanks for letting me be a part of all
this.

something wrong with me

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

45 lbs in 2 months is great! 2 lbs a week..106 lbs in a year. there is no
problem here except for an unreasonable expectation..you don’t say how much you
weigh, how much you need to lose to be healthy or what your doctor has
recommended. please calm down and let the surgery work. 1 cup of food (?) very
much depending on whether you are talking about liquids or solids is a lot. cut
back to 2-3 ozs 5-6 times a day. drink your water it will help “fill you up”.use
this early time to retrain yourself. do not try to see how much you can hold.
you will not die of malourishment.
personally, and i do mean personally, i think the food pyramid sucks. your
surgeon should have nutritional advice for you. follow it or if you want another
opinion sabariatrics has a good program online for nutritional advise. barabara
herrara posts in the archives can help you out too.
because this surgery forces us to micro-tunnel into ourselves it is hard to
relax and step back..but try. you sound as if you have made a great start, calm
yourself and hang on for the ride. you will do fine. we have all been there and

Jim’s Angel Comming in for a Landing!

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Hello Everyone! I’m Jims’Angel(Sharon S). I got a call from Jims’
friend Dallon tonight! Jims’ surgery went great yesterday! He was in
surgery 1 1/2 hours and awake 4 hours later. He’s only sore a little
in one spot. Jim should be returning home on Saturday. Dr Rosenthal
is a wonderful surgeon and God watched over everything carefully to
make sure Jim was safe! God Bless!

Hello and help!!!

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

I’ve not had the surgery yet. In fact, I’m still in the process of
do the preliminaries the doc wants before sending the request to my
insurance.
I’ve been reading the files, the posts and was wondering about
something. When I first have my surgery, you all speak about clear
foods. I don’t eat jello now and not much of a popsicle eater and I
think those are mainly empty calories now much less later.
Is there anything else I can eat? Like make soup beforehand and
drain off the liquid?
Can someone help me?
Thanks,
ElJay

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Yes, I’m new to this group. ALSO…I’m an Angel for my friend, Jim
Messenger! He has his surgery tomorrow (June 9th), as most of you
know. I will be keeping in contact with his family at the hospital to
see how his surgery is going and keep you all up-dated. He’s been
waiting for two years for this SPECIAL DAY! May God embrace my friend
and his family and guide them through this surgery safely. May he be
blessed with a fast recovery and no complications. ALL prayers
WELCOMED…..Thank you, Sharon (sharein_angel)

I am new to this sight

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

I have just started doing research on this type of surgery. I have
also just submitted my info to my dr. in the hopes that I will be
approved. I am 30yrs and 275 lbs. I am having trouble convincing my
husband that I need this surgery and that it is a matter of life and
death if I dont get it because I have several family members that have
diabetes due to excess weight. I would like him to join me when I
visit the doctor. I heard about this sight from a book called
“Finding the thin person within you”. I look forward to using this
sight to answer any questions and to possibly post my sucess story one
day.
